Weird event salvage sale place on St. Marks

Hope I'm not posting about something that's been mentioned before...

I actually live in Boerum Hill, but my best friend lives in PH so I spend a lot of time in y'all's neighborhood. Last weekend I was taking refuge in my friend's well-air-conditioned apartment when I went out on a bodega run and noticed a sale sign on the corner of Underhill and St. Marks, so I wandered down to check it out. There's this strange warehouse at 328 St. Marks between Washington and Underhill where they sell leftover stuff from events -- lots and lots of fabric, lampshades, hats, mirrors beaded curtains, paintings, mannequins, all sorts of strange, random stuff. Turns out my friend has picked up a couple of interesting chairs and some other household items there on the cheap too.

Box o' snakes

Table legs or something?

More fabric

Sculpture thingy

Lampshades

The people who work there seemed a bit odd. I picked up a gigantic bag of pipe cleaners I plan to use for some crafting stuff for three bucks. I didn't realize that I'd wandered in right as they were about to close, and while I waited for change for my five dollar bill they almost locked me in. Either they forgot about me or they were waiting me out in hopes I'd just give up and leave so they could make the extra two dollars -- I had to go way back into the rear of the store to hunt them down and get my change, then squeeze my way out through the one door that wasn't yet locked.

Thought I'd fill folks in on it. It would be a great place to pillage for costume supplies or drapery, thanks to all the strange fabrics, and crafty types could find all sorts of stuff that could be used for projects. Or if you really have a burning need for a box full of rubber snakes or whatever.

  • Are these the people who put up the big "SALE" signs on lampposts? If so, I think this might be the last day of the sale.

Yup, that's them. Dang! Wish I'd discovered this earlier. Don't think I can make it over today before they close.
