Delicacies

Anyone noticed that the fine food store Delicacies on Vanderbilt seems more than usually empty these days? It's never really been chock-full, but I was in there last week and it almost looked like they'd packed up. I didn't want to offend them by asking if everything was okay.
If you haven't already, pop in there for your yummy holiday cheeses. Oh, and quince paste! Have you had this? It's really good! A nice fruity spread to have on a bit of cheese. It's in the refridgerated counter at the back.
Our fine food options in PH are a little ho-hum -- let's keep this place open.

  • They have lovely sandwiches and soups... maybe I'll go there for lunch tomorrow!
  • yah i feel bad that i dont go in there more often

i think in the 2 years or so that they have been open ive bought something there twice.
  • I would feel kind of bad, but everytime I go in there is almost nothing to buy (particularly in comparison with something like D'Vine just a few blocks past flatbush)
I went in tonight hoping to find something good to drag home with me tomorrow--very difficult to shop for grandparents, but there was almost nothing there; i would have settled for a cookie or gelato to start breaking my diet tonight but they really only had bags of what looked like old pecans, a few containers of sauce and ravioli, and a few jars of condiments/seasonings...very disappointing
  • I agree. Last year I bought all sorts of holiday treats there for gifts and dinners. This year they seem to have thrown in the towel. I hate to see small local businesses suffer (unless it's the mean lady at Claudine cleaners on Vand. who ruined something of mine and then gave ME grief for it -- she can go out of business as soon as she wants for all I care).
  • i have to say, i bought a stilton in there the other day that was quite possibly the best cheese ever.

i really hope they don't close.
  • I think they need a new awning. I didn't even go in there for a year b/c of that awning.

I've really liked the sandwiches I've gotten there, but I do wish they had more prepared foods to offer.

I had a gift basket made up for someone who did me a favor once and the woman there was very helpful. She even discouraged me from getting too much so the gift didn't seem over-the-top. I liked that.

same here. sometimes when I'm coming home from work, I wish I could stop at Delicacies and pick up some sort of prepared food for dinner. I guess I wish they were a little more garden of eden/mangia like.
