anyone get a good christmas present? — Brooklynian

anyone get a good christmas present?

My girlfriend and I spent most of our money moving to nyc 6 months ago from sf. instead of spending money on each other, we pooled our resources and bought a roomba robot vacuum, two months ago in fact, as we figured, why wait when we both knew what was coming.

So far so good. actually so far so great. the thing works like a charm, especially in a manhattan apartment with low rugs and wall to wall wood floors. reggie, as we call it, is chomping at the bit to get at some brooklyn dirt when we move to brooklyn after our lease is up next year.

Anyone else get anything they like or find particularly useful?

  • I got a picture cut out of skymall advertising an ipod docking station toilet roll holder. For the man who has everything.
  • my mother destroyed my stock pot making popcorn. she bought me a new one. it's bigger and better.
  • How did she destroy it? You'd think it could handle some popcorn....
  • let me guess...the tragedy of burnt oil

she walked away and scorched the bottom. it wasn't of high quality to begin with, so it really wrecked the bottom. at first I thought it was just a bunch of marks and bumps on the bottom that I couldn't seem to remove with any amount of elbow grease. then I realized how f'd up it was when I was boiling some parsnips and potatoes for a mash on xmas eve and the pot started to buckle when I picked it up. the new one is of much higher quality, weighs a lot more, etc. and she's banned from making popcorn in it. :)
  • I didn't get jackdoodly, except for a $25 JCPenney's gift card from my sister in Kentucky, who obvs didn't realize we don't even HAVE Penney's stores here. I gave it to a coworker who was going home to South Dakota for the holidays, since he said there's nothing to do in his hometown except go to the mall.
  • The best gift I got this year was a swiss army knife from my bro-in-law. It is suh-weet and ever so handy.
