how's the parking?
Subject: how's the parking?
hi all, what's the parking situation like in the 20s? when i've been by i've only seen 1-2 spots per block available, and i fear the parking could get pretty bad soon when all the new condos fill up. most of the buildings i've seen don't have their own lots, so everyone will be looking to park on the street. we live in cobble hill right now, where i regularly spend 20-30 minutes searching for a spot, but i'm too cheap and stubborn to pay for garaging the car and want to avoid that in a new place as well. but are there garages nearby if it comes to that?
i'd love to hear about what parking's like from those of you living there now.
thanks!

Parking is a breeze (for now) in the 20's, depending on your work schedule. There are a few privately owned garages/lots, but I am not familiar with any at the moment that have space (one's on our block on 23rd).
Generally we have not reached critical mass like in CH, PS, BH or FG, but you are correct, alas, once all the condos fill up (since the majority of the ones in GWH and the S Slope do not have on-site parking) it will change.
I am not too worried as my wife and I work from home and ONLY use the car for runs to Home Depot and to visit the rents (i.e. not a lot of movement). But, that's us.
The majority of the side streets in GWH only have alt parking 2 times a week (yippy!) There's always 6th Ave/24th St, which seems to be the commuters parking zone for folks needing early morning parking then a hop on the R train at 25th/4th. And many of the more industrial streets between 5th-3rd Aves are open during the day...
Anyone else have 2 cents to spare? That was my buck!

Great- Thanks for the info. I often don't get home until 9pm. I don't use my car much either, but I'm thinking we'll need it more often in Greenwood Heights. Right now we live around the corner from the supermarket so I can go every day if I need to...sigh.

Walking to different stores and into the Slope or Sunset Park is a breeze, depending on your demeanor. We tend to leave the car at home, unless we're doing a big shop. Keeps those pounds off

Welcome to the 'nabe. When/where are you moving in? PM me if you don't feel like posting...
