Bar Reis (5th Ave 6th) — Brooklynian

Bar Reis (5th Ave 6th)

I took a trip down to the post office on 9th St to submit my passport application, and ended up having to wait 45 minutes for the clerk to return from her lunch break (despite what the U.S. Passport website says, the passport window is not open continuously from 9:30AM-3:30PM). To kill the time, I took a short walk down 5th Ave to look for a place to grab a drink or some food. I decided to stop at Bar Reis, which I had walked past several times in the past without noticing their window-front grill. They serve a small menu of mexican foods, with a handful of vegetarian options. I got the veggie tamale and two veggie tacos - they were the best I've had anywhere locally, far better than the drek at La Taqueria. The tacos were small - you got a double-layered soft corn tortilla, about 2 1/2"'s in diameter, with some beans, lettuce, tomatoe and cheese, along with a cup of some amazing green salsa. The veggie tamale was very good too, unlike the one I ad this weekend at Pacifico.

  • I agree! The taquitos are great late night bar food. Especially the spicy pork with fresh cilantro.
