That NBC scammer guy — Brooklynian

That NBC scammer guy

Someone posted a picture of the quite prolific "NBC" scammer a while ago.

I'm pretty sure this guy hangs out on a stoop a few houses away from the 7th Ave B/Q stop on Park Place in the morning (a few houses past the barbershop / Little Miss Muffin). Can't remember the building number although I did look this morning. I usually see him around 8 am. This morning he was wearing a Yankees cap. He definitely has the same glasses and I swear it is the same guy. He stands on the stoop, looking over the masses, but not in a "I'm just hanging out on my stoop enjoying the morning and glad I'm not going onto the cattle car like these jerks" kind of way. More in a subtly crazy, non-relaxed kind of way: "Who's a sucker here?"

Wondering if anyone had noticed him, too, and if anyone can confirm it is indeed the scammer.

I've decided if he ever approaches me I'll cut him off and say "You're the guy from NBC that promised me Letterman tickets! How's your mom?"

  • Hmmm... I walk by there every morning, but the only guy that I ever notice hangin' out there is a guy that's evidently a Lakers fan... is that the guy that you're thinking of?
  • just outside of soda a few weeks ago my friend and i were approached by a guy who said he needed $4 to get home ... he had some sob story i can't remember now ... we figured he was a con, but gave him a dollar anyway. i was wondering if it was the david letterman guy.

It could have also been the cracked out "I'm on insulin" guy. $4 sounds more like his league. I think "the Proho Gaffler" is more ambitious.
  • I think a lot of us walk down that block every day and would probably notice if the Gaffler were hanging out there. Also, there has been some evidence that he hits a number of different neighborhoods, so he could live anywhere, really.

I saw that guy on the street after the whole picture taking incident and I really had to stop myself from saying "Ah you! I read about you on Daily Heights!"

I wouldn't claim that the guy lives there, but I swear it looks like the spitting image of the guy from the cell phone picture. But given the response here so far I am probably mistaken. I guess all I can say is keep your eyes open.
