krak — Brooklynian

krak

many nights coming home from work
exiting up out of the subway on bergen and 4th
i see this homeless woman. begging
and i don't give her money because she is going to buy crack with it
we know each other for three years now
tonight i gave her some food from the chinese takeout place

i don't wanna give money, unless it's one of those blue plastic bottles
sitting on a table. 'give to the homeless'
that blue plastic jug gives it gravitas

--while waiting for the food to be put together
by a roving gang of chinamen
this guy. this side of the plexiglass. starts talking.
that he's muslim. that he is hungry. do i have some change....

and i'm like, 'no. i'll get you some food instead'
chicken wings, he says.
chicken wings with fries

and then i break down
and give him five singles
and he disappears

walking home i cursed myself for being weak

  • nope
    it's a good idea tho'...
  • Damn, quijibo, you're almost one-year-old. Speaking of age, what year is that totally awesome gyros poster? I remember the first time saw it, I admired the model's Sun-In Super, Aqua Net Extra Super Hold head and wondered what a "jigh-rows" was.
  • i think that poster goes back to the 70's
growing up, every pizza place had that face up on the wall
--so that while waiting for your slice, you'd fall in love with the 'gyro girl'
  • I've never understood not giving money "because they'll buy drugs." I mean, that is what I waste my disposable income on... why shouldn't the homeless?

have you ever been to the halal chinese takeout on dean and 4th?

every few months, all of the employees shift and go back home
--you don't see the same person again for a year

I have been, and I think that the word "chinamen" is insulting, to say the least. When will you throw in the N word?
