Prospect Park South board and info?

Hello all,

I'm moving to NYC for a new job; used to live there as a kid (brownstone on Dean St... ah, if only my parents had bought then!), and was looking at locations around Prospect Park. The current favorite apartment prospect is immediately to the south of the park. According to this (http://www.nyc.gov/html/dcp/html/neighbor/neighl.shtml), this neighborhood has the unimaginative name of Prospect Park South. (Where's the board for this?)

Can anybody tell me about the area? It looks quiet immediately near the park, and relatively safe -- I would be near Parade Place/the Parade grounds. I see a slightly skanky spot to the east (counted three check-cashing places in a two-block radius), but nothing else to worry about. The apartment is small and in one of those ugly box-buildings, but it'll do for a couple of years until I get more familiar with the city.

Any info people could share would be welcome!
