New York Times paper delivery
Ok - I know I'm about to sound like the most obnoxious, lazy individual, but here goes:
Recently, our NYTimes deliveryperson stopped delivering the newspapers to our apartment doors. Instead, he/she is dumping them outside the door of our building in the front vestibule. My day instantly starts off on the wrong foot when I have to go down 6 flights and try to hold the door open while running for the paper.
I was hesitant to call the NYT bc I was afraid that this was some kind of courtesy, special treatment we were receiving and that the rep would ensure we never had door service again. But I finally broke down and called. Apparently, apt door delivery is part of their service... so now I'm back to being pissed at the deliveryperson.
Anyone else having this problem in the Slope?

bah, the complaint is fair. you're paying for that delivery!
I've been wondering about all those blue bags on the street/outside the vestibules on Union ('tween 8th and the park) as I go up to walk my dog.
My personal delivery (butt end of the slope to a lo-rise) has been unchanged. -

it IS???
i'm so glad you mentioned that -- ours has always been left as one in a massive vestibule pile.
how do they get into the building, though? -
Pitu is correct, the NY Times should straighten it out. How does the guy get into a building if it's locked though? They don't ring the bell at 6am...
-
The NYTimes rep I spoke to on the phone said that delivery staff have keys to the front door. I just hope they screen their employees...

Bad part about NYT delivery is their service is inconsistent. Good part is that if you call every time there's a problem, they will get on the ass of the delivery supervisors and make the problem go away. At least for a while.

This has been going on in our lobby almost three weeks now -- 8th and Prez, I think we might be in the same building.
My calls to the Times have resulted in
-- the customer rep saying "I'll inform the carrier"
-- the deliveryperson ringing my bell at 5:30 a.m. on MLK Day, a definite no-no per the Times
-- many apologies but no action from a manager there
-- the discovery that the key was lost
-- two calls this week from the Times' "Locked Building Department," in which both times I told them they had to contact the landlord to get the key (and to let him know that they lost it in the first place)
I've been getting the Times delivered for quite a few years, and it seems that each time the carrier is on vacation or is new, the key gets lost, then found again a week later. This is the worst it's been, and I feel like I've wasted more time to resolve this than I would reading the Sunday paper. If it's not fixed this week, I'm likely cancelling. -
I'm the only one in my building who gets the Times and I had to ask them to at least deliver it into the vestibule. I doubt they will come inside to deliver it for one person. Just recently I had to post a sign to my neighbors NOT to throw out the newspaper if I don't get a chance to pick it up on my way to work. Yes - I clearly must be living among morons!
Oh and you're not lazy - I have to run downstairs every time I get a delivery because my landlord has not installed an intercom/buzzer in the building! It's sooo annoying! -

We may indeed be neighbors. Well, the paper was blue-bagged and downstairs again this morning.... so calling isn't fixing the situation. >hello NY Sun!< -
No, they do that in our building, as well. I live on PPW at 17th street.
-
The Sun? Nahh. If I cancel, I'll just try to find the time at work to read the Times online. I'd much rather read the actual paper -- I think it's a better experience, and you won't go (as) blind reading a long page 1 story -- but I'm also not going to pay for service I'm not getting.
