Carroll Gardens whole wheat pizza find!!!
hey all, i know i know, pizza-purists may not care but i do and now i can say i am totally satisfied because ive found decent whole wheat pizza right here in carroll gardens, brooklyn. while i used to trek all the way to lower 2nd ave in manhattan to Viva Pizza or even worse, all the way up to 23rd street in manhattan to some chain's whole wheat and/or spelt offerings, now i can go right to V & R Pizza right on Court down low near 9th street for a whole wheat slice. while i would hesitate in assuming that theirs is really a 100% whole wheat pie like you can get in NYC, it def has a decent proportion. im thinking he goes with at LEAST a 50-50 mix. i say this because the slice, while being of the very thin, classic style, has a bit of weight to it. also, the taste! i mean, wow, even i was surprised how much the nutty flavor of the whole wheat shines through. and all this from a very classic, textbook Italian small pizzaeria. no hippedippie broccoli pies and nonsense here. just a basic good, classic pie. but with whole wheat goodness. i am entirely excited having had my first slice just 15 minutes ago. i know this will seriously alter my weekly dining habits. i can get my friday night pizza fix so easily now!
one downside, while he is open till 11 pm (yes!) he does NOT deliver at all. so, make the trek to the seriously upand coming south court district and enjoy some whole grain pizza goodness.
note: one slice of the whole wehat was $2.00. a bit pricey, yes, but this was a LARGE slice. it didnt completely fill me like a proper lunch would, but if youre popping by just for a slice while wlaking around, its absolutely perfect.
