New Funds for Historic Lighting

Thanks to the success of the Lights and the public’s interest in having better permanent lighting at Brooklyn’s iconic Grand Army Plaza, the New York State Committee on Ways and Means has allocated $500,000 to complete improvements to historic lighting all around Grand Army Plaza. Former Assembly Member Roger L. Green of the 57th District, whose term ended in December, 2006, was instrumental in getting the funding for the historic lighting allocated.

The Prospect Park Alliance’s Office of Design and Construction will work closely with the New York City Department of Transportation on improving the lighting at Grand Army Plaza. Historic “M” poles, which are more contextually appropriate¸ will likely be installed and configured to provide better lighting of the sidewalks and public spaces.

    love em

remember when GAP had no plants, the fountain was wrapped in plastic all the lights were dirty. It looked like a depressing concrete parking lot, especially with the vacant lot where the RIchard MEeier Building now is, and the old entrance to the library which was entirely concrete steps.

By this summer, the entrance should be complete, the Richard Meier's skin will be on, the flowers aroudn GAP in bloom --and now historic lighting! But they should definitely keep the purple lights at night. The arch looks awesome.
