Mei Chi Liquor - on my s**t list — Brooklynian

Mei Chi Liquor - on my s**t list

so. I'm having a friend over for dinner tonight. realized, due to a vacation, that I haven't planned as far as having actual wine available at this dinner. so, dinner parts all ready except for wine. she's due in .. 6 mins (it's 8.24 as I type). I call Mei Chi Liquor for delivery of some pinot grigio. they have FREQUENTLY delivered to my home. tonight, though, they tell me that they don't deliver to Washington Ave. I tell them that they've delivered to me before. they say it doesn't matter, it's 2 long blocks away. I ask to discuss the situation with their manager/owner. they hang up on me. I figure they messed up (logical, no?) so I call back. they don't answer.

um. great. I'd really like to discuss this with the manager. not in an aggressive way, just to ask why they are being such asses. but there's another part of me that's pretty unforgiving. like, the next time I walk out of work really mad, I'm going to walk in there, unload verbally on the person at the counter, and leave again.

I guess I've just never encountered redlining like this before. and I'd better go 'meet' my friend at Love's and hope that the pinot grigio doesn't fucking suck from there. sigh.

  • order it a 2 blocks away and wait infront of the building. well i used to order take out infront of other peoples buildings while driving.
  • that's bullshit. Call back and ask for a name. If they don't answer, write down the time you called and call tomorrow and ask for the manager and explain the situation and how rude the person on duty was to you.

that sounds different written than in my head! I'm mad on your behalf. I hope they do right by you if you call them tomorrow.
  • I've never heard of having a bottle of wine delivered, that takes laziness to a new level. I bet you even have your weed delivered too.

ooookay. and your beef with taking advantage of advertised services is ... what? I think I adequately described the circumstances - in a rush, friend coming over for dinner, forgot to pick up wine on the way home, thought 'why not tip someone generously for delivering a bottle?'.

and, actually, I don't have weed delivered. men give it to me for free.
  • "I call Mei Chi Liquor for delivery of some pinot grigio. they have FREQUENTLY delivered to my home" I bet you have the Bubble place do your laundry too.
  • King without a crown, I'm not quite sure what the point is in busting on someone for using a delivery service that a business offers. Okay, so you don't have wine delivered yourself, fine. But that's no reason to get all sniffy at someone who does.
  • Replace the name Mei Chi Liquor with Soda Bar, and you would be sticking up for them.

and what would be wrong with using bubbleworks? I can't figure out what your beef is re: using services like delivery. are you upset that I often don't think ahead? or is it a problem that I don't keep my house full of wine? or is it just that you think it'd be better to stop all delivery services in nyc and add that many more folks to the unemployment register? or maybe you think redlining is a great business practice?

or maybe you just like being on a high horse.
  • King without a crown: Do you have some personal beef with alafairnadia or are you just being nasty randomly? Do you even know her? Why do you need to call her lazy? Why the anger? It's New York City. One of the perks of living here is that you can get almost anything delivered. Frequently people get things delivered because they're very busy or housebound, not because they're lazy (although I don't see much wrong with getting things delivered if you're feeling lazy).
  • yamato has pulled this with me. delivered to my house several times, and then telling me they don't deliver here.

    bastards.

but it's still my favorite sushi place in the world.

Good luck. I’ve been a very good customer of Mei Chi for years. I wouldn’t want to depend on there delivery service. They have recently expanded and hired new clerks who don’t know the ropes(one didn’t charge me for tax on my purchase).
The “Dragon Lady” who seems to be the proprietor makes the “bald headed lady” at “Muddy Waters” seem like a Sunday school teacher.
She refused to let me AMX a $9.99 purchase (less than the $10 minimum.) I stopped going there for over a year. That cost her well over a $1000! Nevertheless, the expanded store has a very good selection and the prices are not bad for the neighborhood. And they have had some good and frequent wine tastings lately featuring low cost wines
  • I dont know Alafairnadia and dont really care about her delivery service usage. The Board has been a little dry lately,so my commentary was partly out of boredom. However she did pick on me quite a few months ago on a post, so I still harbor a little hostility. I believe it was the post about spraying the car window breaker with the super soaker.
  • having been the previous recipient of the undeserved invictive that you mention in your post and that alafairnadia defended at that time (merely by restating the facts you overlooked in your vituperation), i'd like to suggest a more appropriate outlet for your 'hostility' and 'boredom,' rather than taking it out on your neighbors. like the couch. yeah, therapy is more costly and less anonymous, but might help with the feelings you mention and the actions you take to assuage them that end up offending other people.

not meant as snark, by the way. honestly.
  • Too many big words for one post!
  • sorry...i get that way sometimes without some good delivered liquor :)
  • Shit, I didn't even know I could "sometimes" get wine delivered from them. They have exploded their wine collection since the remodelling and carry the best under $20 Zin I have found anywhere.

Sorry they didn't come Alfair, but it is always also nice to talk a brisk and brief walk with a friend at the same point to pick out a wine together, yeah?

interesting, if off the wall, bit of faux-casual repartee from someone who, judging by his previous posts, appears to be a cop.
  • most cops are just criminals with a badge, a free gun, and a car with lights and sirens.
  • Word. And the freedom to shoot those who get their weed delivered.
  • RE: getting stuff delivered.....

I'm waiting to be able to go to my bank's website and have money delivered.

Then I'll NEVER have to leave the house.

Also, on methods of purchasing alcohol. I grew up in Florida and when I was sixteen (with a bad fake ID), you could go to the drive-thru window at the liquor store and order a plastic cup half filled with Coke and an airline-nip of rum. How cool was that?
  • where is this Mei Chei?
  • Right off the 2 train on flatbush, PH side.

I always liked Mei Chi, even had a few conversations about pricing and made some suggestions (which they adopted!) but I never get delivery. In fact, I just walk downstairs to wine exchange these days.
