Hey everyone-

My West African band Kakande had a great time playing at the Underground Railroad Safehouses in December. We rocked the house with our balafon-powered 8-piece Mande grooves, and it brought a great, diverse crowd. But little did we know that when Mama Joy's kids took the stage when we took a break, they would nearly upstage us. Nearly. But their energy inspired to higher peaks of West African musical ecstasy.

Click here for photos of our last show:

Here are the details:
Where: 227 Duffield Street
Brooklyn
(between Fulton Willoughby)
Take the 2/3 to Hoyt or M/R to Lawrence Street
Brave Downtown Brooklyn vehicular traffic at your own risk.
Suggested donation: $8

Our next show in Brooklyn will the at Grand Dakar, a Senegalese restaurant in Clinton Hill, and the cover will be $20, so this is a chance to see us for cheap.

And you can always find out more about my label at http://www.JumbieRecords.com and more about the band at http://jumbierecords.com/artists/kakande.html

Hope to see you there!

PS: Experience has taught me that the best way to get people on this board to open a post is to have an explosive topic. But we're going to keep it real positive.

PPS: And while I'm on the subject of bald-faced self-promotion, here's an article about my label in the New York Sun: http://www.nysun.com/article/47184
