Best way to explore FG and CH? — Brooklynian

Best way to explore FG and CH?

OK, I keep hearing so much about these great neighborhoods, and (once it gets a little warmer) would like to take a Saturday and do a walking tour of the area. Would like to see some cool architecture, eat at some good local haunts, I'm sure the girlfriend could be persuaded to do some shopping, etc.

So, lemme put it out there -- can anyone suggest a good route to walk? Or if that's too specific, could someone give me a starting point (a subway stop would be great) and just some boundaries to wander around...

Thanks so much!

  • Take a front subway car to the Clinton-Washington A train stop. Then walk straight down Clinton Ave from Fulton to Myrtle. That's a nice tour of CH architecture including the Pratt Mansions. Afterwards, have a burger & fries at Maggie Brown's on Myrtle.
  • You really should check out the three main strips - Fulton, Dekalb and Myrtle, as well as Fort Greene Park. I recommend starting at Atlantic Ave subway, walk over to Lafayette past BAM, make a right on Fulton up to South Portland , make a left and walk up to the Park. Stroll around in there and then up Dekalb to Cleremont or Vanderbilt over to Myrtle and then hit up Maggie Browns. That will show you a lot of the highlights, but there is a lot more you could see if you have a lot of time and are really in the mood to walk.
  • I fully support both of the recommendations above.

Edit: Also if the Farmer's Market has started up hit that at Ft Greene park. It's at the corner of Dekalb and Cumberland

Maggie Brown's is my favorite Clinton Hill restaurant.
  • Farmer's Market is year-round on Saturdays. So definitely go on a Saturday!
  • Subject: stretching it...

Those were get instructions for touring FG and CH. Though I just recently moved to BedStuy, I fully intend to do both of those! Can someone offer similar direction for BedStuy?

I've never even been in the winter. What do they have?
  • Root vegetables, apples, honey, fish, plants, yogurt, eggs, cheese, goat products, all sorts of meat and sausages.
