Went to this event - watched the end of Angel Heart and hung out for a couple drinks during the "dance party."

Unfortunately, they imported DJs from Williamsburg (no offense to Bburgers) who played more techno housey stuff than the crowd wanted. When the second DJ finally busted out some soul for a few minutes, we had a good time.

Overall it was a fun evening since the weather couldn't have been better. They raised, I think, around $5k.

Malcolm X Grassroots Movement (MXGM) is coordinating a drive citywide.

They are accepting non-perishable food, NEW socks and underwear, and clothing in GOOD condition, as well as sealed medical supplies (pain relievers, insect repellent, etc), diapers, feminine supplies, towels/sheets/sleeping bags/garbage bags/air mattresses ETC.

Please be sensible in what you donate . . . I just had a really good time packaging up all the work clothes I hate . . . summer-y and so perfect for the South.
