A tip for getting your car unstuck

Okay, so maybe it's a little late to be too helpful, but it seems as if a large number of NYers aren't very deft when it comes to getting their cars unstuck.

Even if you don't have a shovel, and even if you don't have someone to help push, you can increase your chances by getting momentum on your side. Mashing the gas pedal doesn't help, so don't do it. Instead, imagine that you're a little kid on a swing set and that your feet don't reach the ground. What do you do? You give a little kick of your legs to get things going forward, you drift back naturally, and when you start forward again, you give it a little more, and so on and so forth, 'til you're swingin' like a maniac, ready to jump from your perch and go flyin' through the air, much to your parent's dismay... So, give it a little gas, let it roll back, give it a little more, let it roll back, give it a little more... etc, etc, 'til you're sprung.

Good luck!

  • Good advice, Mr. Frozen North!
Last night, I gave a guy a box to rock those tires on to . . . cardboard, sand, or kitty litter for traction . . .
  • Yeah, having something helps, but soooooo many seem woefully unprepared...
