3rd Street — Brooklynian

3rd Street

edited November -1 in Park Slope
I'm doing a family research and I believe my maternal great grandfather used to live at 13450-23 3rd St. up unto the late 1920's.
Does anyone know anything about the area then, it his building still standing? Whats there now? If someone could email me a picture, that would be great.
I live out on the island in Suffolk County and will come in when it gets warm, but I just want to know what to expect.
thanks

  • Are you sure this is the right address? Kinda long.
  • Thats what I have, I punched it up on msn maps and showed near the corner of 3rd St and 4th Ave. It looks like a Staples on the corner
  • Not possible-that is not a valid 3rd Street address. There is a Staples at the corner of 3rd Street and 4th Avenue-but, house numbers on 3rd Street do not go up that high-we only have 3 digit numbers here
  • Are you sure that address is in Brooklyn?
  • Try this, IPD 1029...

I did a google search on the address and got one hit on a Joseph Rockelin, on a genealogy website...I imagine this is probably your grandfather. It does list 13450-23 3rd St as the address, so I searched Joseph Rockelin and found the following on a rootsweb page:

    ROCKLEIN-Joseph E-Prob-1928-DEC 29-NY-Queens-1253-29 (AD)-134-50 233 St--PROB0018-BK

As you can see, the original query hit separated the 23 & 3 and turned it into a non-existent park slope address. Your grandfather actually lived in queens...and you can that usually by the whole hyphen in the address number thing...I think that's how most if not all queens addy's work. Here's the site URL where I found that info above...good luck on hunting for more info. Hopefully, queens has a cool board like this that you can utilize for your quest...like Queensinian dot com or something :)
