auto insurance in brooklyn

I am curious to get a range what others in Brooklyn are paying?

I turn 29 next month, I only got my license last fall(I guess I was spoiled living out here by mass transit).
I am getting a used car(will be my first) as a gift(97 buick lesabre).

I went to the geico/esurance sites to get a basic quote to have a general idea
of what I should pay. It seemed way off, almost $500 a month(both).
It seems high even for Brooklyn. I am wondering the reasons, I am almost 30 but a new driver. I have a good career, but bad credit.. etc..
not sure other reasons that make the cost go up...

Being male, a new driver and/or under 25 years old will cost you big time for liability alone. If you have any friends in rural PA I'd register the car there and pick up insurance at same as well.

Around 1400/yr for me with Progressive I think. Been driving for 10 yrs though.

progressive was around 2500 or so for 6 months. There is a state farm office a few blocks from me, maybe if I talk to them I get a better offer
