renting (shared space) in the slope

My apologies if this is in the wrong forum -- unfortunately, my options are becoming somewhat limited and I'm in need of help.

I've been trying to find a decent shared apartment that's looking for a renter in the slope. Something inexpensive ($500-700?) and maybe even NOT in the Slope: Carroll Gardens, Boerum Hill, Sunset Park. I'd be down with any of those.

Craigslist.org has been an absolute disappointment. I've had a couple of good leads, only to lose out because I'm not what the renters look for (i.e. almost lived with two gay girls, except I lost out to a third) or because the apartment is an absolute nightmare in person.

Does anyone know of any other ways that people go looking for roommates? Or does anyone know of folks in need of a new addition? In all seriousness -- I'm not sketchy, I'm not crazy, and I'm hardly home. Between trying to open a restaurant in Manhattan, plus my day job, PLUS staying at my gf's place a couple nights per week, I'm probably the ideal roommate most would like: one that's hardly home.

Any assistance would be fantastic at this point.
