  • Make a DH table tent.
  • Isa wrote: This sort of sucks because my band practice is now permanently on Wednesdays. Daniel can I make this up to you online?
I work from home most of the time, so I'm up for an online game of Settlers pretty much any time. Don't feel bad though, you were decent enough to cancel, rather than just not show up.

Anyway, enough griping, perhaps next time I try something like this it will be more successful. Or, I'll just stick to Nerd game nights.
  • daniel wrote: Damn! Carnivore, you're the only person who showed up. Erin and I got there just before 8, and stayed until 8:45. No one showed, so we left. Yourself and Isa are good people, everyone else - you suck!
Alafairnadia called me from Soda around 8:45ish asking if I was there (nope) and/or if I knew if the game was still on because she couldn't find anyone. I guess now we know why. Maybe we should just designate for now and always a place where DH people will be at Soda for an event, i.e. the downstairs corner of the patio or the back couch area near the patio door.

Not a bad idea, although it could be foiled if there are already people sitting there when the first DHer arrives. The frustrating thing about this time was that I've met all the people who showed up and know what they look like. I think it was just bad timing last night.

    Gang-green...gangrene bwahahahahaha....ahem...sorry.

You're right, daveb. The idea was rotten...

Argh! Alafairnadia, I'm sorry Erin and I didn't stick around long enough to be there when you got there, but we were a bit disheartened by the lack of attendees. Thanks for making the effort, though! Maybe next time we'll have more luck.

Where was your sign? I got there at about 8:40. I got a diet coke and began studying every table (yes, I was the freak with two bags looking at every single table top intently) and saw zero evidence of board games, notebooks, or anything else that would indicate game playing. Then I called Candice to make sure I was at the right place at the right time (I had said above in this thread that I'd be late). Then I finished my diet coke and went to the Beast fundraiser, where I didn't see anyone. I bitched about all of this to daveb who I ran into on the steps of our building.

no worries. I'll see y'all on wednesday (I'll be late again -- 8:30 or so)

We were sitting at the round table in the front window, with the game box right on top of the table. We must have left just before you got there. Oh well!
  • I can try to come by next Wednesday, but I'll have to leave early (a little after 10) because I have to be at work by 11 pm. Hopefully, I can at least get the idea in that time and be ready to play the following week.

[first official game night trash-talking] By my third time, I plan to be kicking everyone's ass at this! [/first official game night trash-talking]

I actually can't make it for the next few weeks. I've already got plans for next Wednesday, the following week I'll be in Nashville for work, then the next week I'll be in Costa Rica for vacation. Hopefully we'll get a game of Settlers out on the table soon, though!

Just trying to save you from feeling the crushing agony of defeat too often - it's not healthy!

That would sound much bolder if it wasn't on the eve of your tactical retreat!

Oh, is that how it's gonna be?!
  • Don't make me bust out the Risk!!! I'm mutha-effin' Napoleon minus Waterloo!!!

I wasn't referring to his physical stature, but okay, okay- how about Sun Tzu?! Machiavelli? Pick a Khan, any Khan? NOT Chaka!

    Khan Noonien Singh.

Just kidding. Actually, I will be Lord Nelson to your Pierre Villeneuve.
  • Maybe if this Settlers of Catan thing takes off, we'll need to get the 5-6 player expansion pack!

I don't remember any accounts of Nelson wetting himself and whimpering before being disposed of...

    My point exactly.

Uh huh... uh huh... well, I tire of all this talk... I, sir, am a man of ACTION! Bring out the board games!

I will be there as late as my wife will allow!
  • I really wish I still had my old Axis & Allies board game with the 8 billion little pieces. Tanks, planes, soldiers. I loved that game.

    Already got it ;)
  • Is this Catan thing still happening on Wednesday nights? I haven't played that since a few New Year's Eves ago. Any game where you can shout out "I have wood and I need sheep!" is certainly to be tried at least once.
  • Neither of these are in the neighborhood, but there are boardgame nights held by NerdNYC (http://www.nerdnyc.com) about once every 6-8 weeks, and also by the NYC Boardgame Meetup.com group (http://boardgames.meetup.com/23/) which meets twice per month.
  • I still want to learn to play this game. We could try again at happy hour tomorrow... :?:
