Gen : brunch / weekend lunch

Gen (on corner of St Marks and Washington Ave) has started serving brunch / lunch from noon to 3 on weekends.

The chef has come up with a nice reasonably priced set menu, with choice of several entrees.

It is quite Japanese, not Americanized brunch. However it is not traditional Japanese breakfast fare either. Since brunch is not a Japanese meal, it is as if the chef created a new Japanese brunch meal. The regular Gen menu is standard Japanes dishes, so the chef's creative talents aren't revealed as much if you go for dinner.

We've spent a combined decade living in Japan and were impressed with the result.

Again, it is not eggs and bacon, so if you aren't keen on eating sashimi or miso soup and the like for the first meal of the day, might want to have a bagel or something before going and consider it lunch.

I'd like a new delivery Japanese place- ordered from Tatsu II and it was soooo bad! It actually turned me and roomie off from Japanese for a bit
