Need advice: Is Williamsburg the right place for me?

Hey all, new to the forums and enjoying all the posts going on...I just moved up to Manhattan a few weeks ago and currently in a sublet in midtown, which I'm finding to be too noisy. I'm looking to move to a somewhat quieter neighborhood and am trying to read up on areas in Brooklyn (I've been told to check Greenpoint, Williamsburg and Fort Greene).

I'm 22, my office is off of Bryant Park (BDFV or any line going to Times Sq. is close). I want a neighborhood with good restaurants, close to the city, a good gym, and some culture (music scene, movie theaters...BAM sounds cool to me). I also like to cook, so somewhere near any sort of organic/natural food store would be nice. I'm looking to spend up to $1500 a month, and it looks like that will get me a decent studio in the aforementioned areas (I'm much more concerned with quality/safety than I am with how big the apartment is). Do those areas seem to fit my bill? Certain areas that are nicer/safer? Thanks to everyone, much appreciated-
