Community Group Seeks $6.0008 Million for Raising Ratner Bid

"Develop Don't Destroy Brooklyn (DDDB) ... will seek a finder's fee from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority for the group's efforts which led to the $50 million increase of Ratner's low-ball offer."

"'We got the MTA $50 million more than they would have gotten without us,' said DDDB spokesman Daniel Goldstein. 'At a 12% finder's fee that comes out to $6 million. Plus it cost us around $800 in printing and mailing to alert developers to the property sale, which the MTA didn't really do. That comes out to $6.0008 million, which we would accept in cash or check."

"We know that may sound like a lot of money, but its not much less than Bruce Ratner's $10 million down payment for the Vanderbilt Yard.'"

That is AWESOME. $6 million is not enough to really hurt taxpayers, but it's enough to be a perfect f u to MTA. It also should get actual press coverage now that the deal is through the initial stages.

Guest. besides your caps-lock rant being just that, a caps-lock rant, its uh, totally wrong.

as for claiming our Finder's Fee, first off, that press release, was what one would call satire, shall we say it was a modest proposal. (you might notice that if you come out from behind your caps-lock key)

second it claimed a finder's fee for DDDB which actually was wholly responsible for bringing in the competing Extell bid. had we not done what we did, Ratner would have had the yards for 50 million. Thats a fact.

as for your other nonsense, i'll just put on my caps-erase key and ignore.

I think you should ask for the $50 million that the MTA didn't get by accepting the $100 million offer instead of the $150 million offer. When I heard that I was dumbfounded. I mean who takes the lower offer? WTF? Especially when you're supposedly cash strapped.

Um, I think press contacts are something one acquires and works on, its also information that is open to the public. BRINGING IN THE OTHER DEVELOPER DID NOT NECCESITATE THE ACTION THAT PROMPTED THE MTA TO REQUEST THAT FCRC RECONSIDER THEIR OFFER AND COME BACK WITH A HIGHER DOLLAR VALUE. EXTEL OFFERED A VERY INCOMPLETE PLAN THAT THE MTA WAS NOT GOING TO CONSIDER BASED UPON THE HOLES THAT IT CONTAINED. ON THE OTHERHAND FCRC HAD A COMPLETE PLAN THAT OFFERED MANY NON-MONETARY INCENTIVES, THAT IF THEY WERE TO BE APPRAISED, WOULD HAVE TAKEN THE FCRC VALUATION OF THE YARDS TO OVER $300 MILLION US DOLLARS. NOW PETER, WITH THE MTA, SAID IT OUTRIGHT. HE STATED THAT THE MTA HAD EXPECTED THE FCRC OFFER TO BE HIGHER AND AS A RESULT TABLED THE OFFER UNTIL FCRC HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO RECONSIDER ITS OFFER....THAT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH EXTEL BEING THERE AND THUS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU DGOLDSTEIN. A small request - what is your relationship to this project? Bystander, Cheerleader, Crony, Protester, Hanger-on, Malcontent, Maven, Expert or a combination of the above? Everyone on PH has something to gain or lose with this and a little transparency would go a long way.

This and dropping the all caps, will give your argument a little more weight.

Using All Caps is quite annoying, but I have another pet peeve: it's when people discount someone's position simply because they haven't been around long enough. Example:

I have to agree with mamalink and dailyheights. I have heard the "Joey" from Cobble Hill calling into Brian Lehrer, and I'm sure it was Joe Deplastico, a paid Ratner PR spokesperson. I consider it dishonest that he did not identify himself as such.

I'm not saying that every Ratner opponent is fair, and the pro-Ratner people do have allies- they did manage to get 16% of the vote against Tish's 84%. But I think I'm being fair with the assertion that many of the vocal pro-Ratner people are getting paid off in some way.

Of course, the pro-Ratner people would say I'm just protecting my property value, and there is SOME truth to that. I have no problem discussing my biases.

But I have seen the pro-Ratner thugs in person many times. They are literally bussed in from out of town. They get paid to go to meetings, and they are given lunch. They certainly have a right to their views, but I would like to point out that they have less credibility if they don't admit that they are on someone's payroll.

There are some valid reasons to support Ratnerville. Why not put our cards on the table? My personal experience tells me that mamalink has reason to talk trash.

Before we jump to conclusions about the identity of our mysterious poster and pin it on "Joey from Cobble Hill" (regrettably, Raul is probably right about Deplasco calling WNYC as "Joey"), let's consider that "R-A-N-T-E-R" can be anagrammed to spell "RATNER." :shock: Hmm...

Also, what's the use of finger pointing amongst neighbors over who's stealing from whom, when an important issue is, "Is RATNER stealing private property rights?"
