A flood of interest in a Prospect Park Pool
For the past few days, I have been trying to build support for the idea of making the proposed new ice rinks in Prospect Park adaptable for use as a pool in the summer.
Many people are unaware of this, but there is a precedent in the Lasker pool/rink at the north end of Central Park.
Once I created an online petition, the movement took off.
Less than 48 hours after I did that, we have well over 100 signatures. Most of these are online at http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/swimprospect?e
but last night I also created some "manual" petitions and left them at K-Dog & Dunebuggy cafe in Prospect Lefferts Gardens. I just got a call from Gabrielle, the owner, who tells me they got about 40 signatures in just a few hours, and she needs more petitions.
It also looks like there will be an article on the pool proposal in the Bklyn Eagle!
Folks, this is terrific! Let's keep it going.
If you really want this to happen, I'd suggest two more steps for now.
1. make a petition yourself and bring it to your local cafe for your neighbors to sign.
2. bring the signatures, and all your aquatically-minded friends, to the 6 pm meeting tomorrow night at Wollman Rink (Parkside and Ocean Aves). The purpose of the meeting is for the community to weigh in on the proposed new rink.
Hooray for chlorine!?!?!
