The NYC City Council must restore City aid for CUNY so that its' students can receive the financial and academic support they need to succeed. New York State needs an educated workforce. :!:
The 2007-2008 New York City budget is currently being negotiated by the Mayor and the New York City Council with adoption expected in the coming weeks.
CUNY faces fiscal challenges as a result of the City's proposed FY 2008 budget. The University needs $21 million in restorations and $6.4 million in enhancements for operational support to the community colleges. This includes critically needed full-time faculty positions and student services such as counseling, advisement, child care and services to students with disabilities. CUNY also needs $15.7 million in City aid restored to keep tuition affordable for thousands of students served by the Peter F. Vallone Scholarship Program and the Safety Net Scholarship Program. The Mayor and City Council are negotiating the budget now and your e-mail messages will impact their decision making. PLEASE ACT NOW!! :!:
In order to secure critical funding, we urgently need you to communicate your views on the importance of support for CUNY, the community colleges, student support services and scholarship programs.
