The pilot who safely landed a US Airways jetliner in the Hudson River
with 155 people aboard is a 40-year veteran who runs a safety consulting firm.

An official familiar with the accident tells The Associated Press
the pilot is Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger III.

The 57-year-old Sullenberger, from Danville, Calif., is a 29-year US Airways veteran
and a former U.S. Air Force fighter pilot who flew F-4 aircraft.
He is president of Safety Reliability Methods, a California safety consulting firm.
