homeownerMOD HERE: It seems like things might be getting a little out of hand here, so I've stopped by to remind you folks to try and keep the name calling and general negative behavior to a minimum. We have Rules (they are listed at the top of the page under the heading COMMUNITY). In case you've missed them I've posted them below.Brooklynian.com is a place to find useful information and news about specific neighborhoods in Brooklyn. You can send private messages to other users if you register, or visit our "other" discussion boards, including The Classifieds (LOCAL personal or small business ads only, please), The Lounge (general chat), Brooklyn and Beyond, and ASK BROOKLYNIAN (general discussions about how the site works or doesn't work).
If you feel any of the rules have been violated, PM one of the site administrators ("PM" button at the bottom of this post to PM DailyHeights, or you can send one to apollonia666 or Emily). DO NOT complain publicly on the main boards; your post might be deleted, or moved to the ASK BROOKLYNIAN area.
* Be nice. If you can't be nice, go to a different website. "Nice" does not mean kittens and rainbows. More like, "general level of civil decorum." It's OK to argue and disagree, and in fact we encourage it, but don't stoop to personal attacks, name calling, shouting wild generalizations like "YOU'RE ALL A BUNCH OF GENTRIFYING YUPPIES", or other childish behavior.
* Try to pick one username and stick with it. If you start posting under different identities, do not be surprised when people get angry with you, or try to "out" you publicly as masquerading. Fakers will be named and shamed, and posts like this are subject to removal at the discretion of the moderators and admins.
*"Moderators" are the people who make sure these boards stay fun and useful. They have their own set of rules too (see below). Keep in mind they are human, just like you. Have patience. If you feel you have been treated unfairly by a mod, please contact an admin (see above). Complaining publicly about the mods is NOT going to solve anything - the conversation will be deleted, and repeat offenders will be warned or put on timeout.
* If your post gets deleted, it's not a First Amendment issue. It's probably an issue about you being a jerk.
* Please don't make the same post on multiple boards. If you'd like your post to be considered for crossposting to another board, you can PM a moderator or post in the "Ask Brooklynian" board.
* We are busy people, so we discourage posts that don't add anything to the discussion (example: "LOL")
* Commercial posts go in the Marketplace, either CLASSIFIEDS, Sales/Events or APTS/REAL ESTATE. PLEASE do not post more than one ad at a time, and be advised that the CLASSIFIEDS are mainly for individuals and small businesses local to Brooklyn; if you post a general ad that has no particular significance to Brooklyn, it may be deleted. If you are posting about an event that's specific to one neighborhood, ask a moderator if it's OK to post a notice on a Neighborhood board.
* Avatars and Sig Lines: No advertisements or commercial links in your signature line please. (See above. Commercial posts go in the Marketplace ONLY.) Avatars should be in the "safe for work" category since they are going with you everywhere on the boards. Do we really have to spell this out? No photos in the signature lines - that's what the avatar is for! Again, the general rule of thumb is Don't Be A Jerk.
* If you comment on a business in which you (or your friend or relative) have a financial interest, YOU HAVE TO DISCLOSE THAT IN THE POST. Shilling is when someone who has an interest in a business or event pretends to just be a happy, satisfied customer or patron who wants to tell everyone how awesome Joe Schmoe's Coffee Shop is or whatever. Even if you are a well-meaning friend or relative of the business owner, participating in this deceitful tactic does more harm than good for the business. Shilling is subject to removal at the discretion of the moderators and admins. Also, people will gladly "out" you and embarrass you for breaking this rule.
* Talking about your own business because it's relevant to the conversation: Sometimes OK, if you are truly contributing to the discussion, and your post is really relevant to the thread. People come here to talk about the neighborhood and they don't want to wade through promotional posts. It should be OK if you start out by saying "By way of full disclosure, I own this bar, but since you guys are talking about doing X-Y-Z you should know that we have had an X-Y-Z night for a few months now..." something like that. Just be cool.
* Questions about the operation of the boards should be posted on the Ask Brooklynian board.
* Please SEARCH before posting general questions. Questions like "Where's a good laundromat in Park Slope?" or "Is such-and-such street safe late at night?" have often been discussed many times already, so you might find the answer you need is already here.
* Policy on Businesses and People Discussed on Brooklynian: Opinions expressed on Brooklynian.com are solely those of the people who write them, NOT the owner, administrators, or moderators of the site. Brooklynian.com has no control over the truth, accuracy, quality, or legality of postings made by users. Because verifying the identity of a user on the Internet is difficult, Brooklynian.com cannot and does not confirm the identity of users.
Brooklynian.com is not legally responsible for any remarks, information or other content posted or made available on its site by any user or third party. Brooklynian.com is not responsible for accuracy or reliability, and does not monitor or censor content for accuracy or reliability. However, Brooklynian.com reserves the right to remove or restrict access to any information or content posted or made available on its site by its users or any third party if Brooklynian.com considers such information or content to be in violation of its site rules, which can be viewed here:

Sometimes we hear from people who don't like negative opinions that people write about them or their businesses here. We advise that you develop a thick skin and learn to accept (and learn from!) what people say about you, whether it's at the laundromat, on the street corner, or on a neighborhood message board. If you don't like something someone says here about you or your business, the best thing to do is register for the site, join the conversation, and explain your side of things (note: if you are going to post about something you have a business interest in, you MUST disclose that in your post; please see the section on shilling in our site rules for more information on why this is important).
If you have any questions, please contact [email hidden].
Rules for Moderators
1. Take the high road. Mods have to stay neutral and judicious on issues of board behavior and etiquette, and be an example for other users. It's bad form to post mean or sarcastic comments in response to another user, no matter how stupid or callous the user is being.
2. Use the X button to delete spam.
3. Delete obviously antagonistic/obnoxious/obscene/threatening posts, but let a site admin know about it (you can send the text of the message).
3b. If you are even slightly unsure about whether something should be deleted, then please don't. Ask a site admin first.
4. Please never edit people's posts. If you feel strongly enough that a post is out of bounds and needs to be edited, then let a site admin know. On rare occasion, a post will be edited, to delete an address or phone # or something else that shouldn't be there.
5. Set the tone for the board by answering people's questions, and by regularly shouting, "YOU WILL RESPECT MY AUTHORITY!!" Beat your chest for effect. (Ha, ha.)
6. Mod powers should come and go. Not arbitrarily, but if somebody falls off the face of the earth, or consistently acts more like a user than a mod, then a change is probably in order.
7. Be alert at all times for the return of "the" anonymous guest. :-) -
francescaHi - Terry, I'll email you mapquest. Checking it out now. Ate too much while out to dinner. Decadant chocolate desert I did not leave.
Deb, one positive thing you must seriously consider. THEY WOULD NOT LET YOU WAIT SIX WEEKS if it were awful. Focus on the positive...
Your state of mind can affect....... See Positive ONLY!!!!! -
debbie bonavita mccarthyI'm trying Franny!!!! I'm trying to be positive to keep my kids from worrying. I won't let them know how scared I really am!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
debbie bonavita mccarthyWell, good night all. Tomorrow will be a long day. -
francescaOk Debbie... cause my dad was sick my entire childhood... and I always worried about him dying... And I swear I had male abandonment issues....
Like all the men in my life would die or leave me... Not fun way to grow up... or to be an adult woman. But I've matured now :-) Most times.
Just trying to keep some kids from therapy in the future. Bless You!!!! -
francescaTERRY -
I emailed you the directions, time, my cell number (in case you don't have it). Should be a piece of cake for you.... Only few minutes off of the Outerbridge. And it IS Sherman St. God intervening once again.
See you tomorrow for a quick hug....
GOOD NIGHT EVERYONE!!!! SWEET DREAMS! -
francescaHOMEOWNER/MODERATOR...
Thank you for taking the time to POST Guidelines and Game Rules.
We respect you (and the Site), and what 'you' do for this blog. And while I've not read every line item, I'm sure most of us here commit to follow these guidelines; and as you know, we can't be responsible for the occassional drop-in of the unknown.
But thanks for the reminder and taking the time to Post...
....and for those who don't want to play by the rules...
TAKE YOUR BAT AND BALLS AND GO HOME!!! -
t-bone51HOMEOWNER, ADMINISTRATOR, CARNEVIENTO DEVOTEE,
We are really nice people on here but do u see what has been going on????
I wrote the administrator about this a few weeks ago.
First this Kate, Mady, whatever and now this Lorena I think.
No one is being mean. this person is alittle crazy and we talk so much about our personal life that we are worried. Have u read the post that were on here and the videos that were not so nice. SOOOOOOOOOOO if anyone should read the rules it should be the katie, mady and lorena chic. If u have read this from day one I have been on here and it has been a wonderful site. So when u post your rules and regulations it should not be for us.
Maybe a few on here got a little upset but u have to understand. Did u see the BIG photos she posted of Fantasia..What was that all about. Did u see when that Kate put crazy videos on her that were horrible????
Where were u posting rules and regulations at that time.
I think we are doing a great favor for u guys. Don't u make money on all the advertisements that come on here. Y ou are getting alot of advertisements due to us writing 639 pages. So.....I think we need protection here. Thnking u in advance Terry Angelo Sherman AND YES AM VENTING ONCE AGAIN -
patsy (miele) kirkGO TERRY!!!!
WE ARE GREAT PEOPLE ON HERE. WE ARE NOT THE ONES THAT SHOULD BE REPRIMANDED
GOOD NIGHT ALL.
[-o< [-o< -
francescaGood Night Terry and Patsy
I didn't take it as a reprimand - but a way to share the rules with all -
so they are VISIBLE for those who are not following them. I think it
was appropriate, given all the shit that's been showing up here.
I do not think it was directed to us... Unless the shoe fits.... to anyone
out there...
Love Ya!
