Cooking Class for Adults
Autumn Stocks and Soups - Back by popular demand!
We’ll start by making homemade vegetable stock. We’ll then make 3 versatile seasonal soups -- a silky butternut squash, a fall minestrone, and a rich wild mushroom barley. We’ll work on basic knife skills and a few techniques that take the mystery out of making fantastic soups. After this class, you’ll see how simple it really is to make a quick soup at home! Soups are vegetarian and can easily be made vegan as well.

Thanksgiving Sides
In these 2 special holiday classes, we'll focus on make-ahead Thanksgiving side dishes that will make holiday preparation easier, and are sure to impress! Classes are taught by professional chef and caterer Kim Pistone, who emphasizes the use of healthy ingredients and time-saving kitchen techniques. Ingredients are locally sourced from small organic family farms.
November 12 - Cranberries, Soup, and Green Beans
In the first of these two hands on Thanksgiving classes we will be reinterpreting three classic dishes. We will make Organic Cranberry Orange Compote, Curried Butternut Squash Soup with Apple Raita, and Green Beans with Wild Mushrooms and Fried Shallots.

November 19 - Stuffing, Mashed Potatoes, and Sweet Potato Pie
In the second class we will be making stuffing from rustic whole grain bread with wild mushrooms and local greens. As an alternative to plain mashed potatoes we will be adding celery root and cauliflower to yukon gold potatoes and topping it with caramelized onions. We will be also be making an upside-down sweet-potato tart that is both savory and sweet.

Pint Size Gourmets - Cooking Classes for Kids
(for ages 3-10)
It’s just a fact—kids love to get in elbows deep and cook! And even better, they love to try the things they make. So why not start your child down a path of excellent food choices the fun way with Pint Size Gourmets at Get Fresh, a cooking class just for kids. From baked goods to full meals, at these classes you and your child will learn to make a variety of delicious, healthy foods. After it’s all cooked, we will taste together and of course send you home with whatever you don’t finish. Parents and kids alike will learn a lot and have an absolutely fun-filled time doing it! Classes are taught by our very own Chef Jessie.
What we'll make: Grassfed beef lasagna
When: Friday, November 7, 3:30-5 pm

Edible Gift Making with Chef Richard Ruben!
Are you in a pickle over holiday gift shopping this year? Join Chef Richard Ruben, author of The Farmer's Market Cookbook, at Get Fresh on Sunday, November 16th from 2 to 4pm and learn how to make beautiful jars of pickled vegetables, flavored vinegars and herbed oils for Christmas gifts while supporting the local food movement at the same time! Community Markets is providing all the produce for the workshop from Community Markets’ Park Slope Farmers Market at JJ Byrne Park located just up the street from Get Fresh. Each person will bring home 2 pickled items and an herbed oil and vinegar.
