Subject: ozzie's on 5th CHARGES to use wi-fi(wireless internet) ?

I was in Ozzie's on Fifth Avenue and I think this takes the 'let's scam our customers every way we can' award. In order to use your wireless internet connection, you have to "register" with an online site and minimum is $6 a day. I've never seen this elsewhere. In fact, most places use having wi-fi as a way to get you in. I was very aggravated by this. Despite practically everything being commercialized in our world already, this seemed most egregious.

    OMG - your right to Free Internet Access Everywhere has been violataed!

    Seriously, what's the big deal? It costs them money to maintain the PCs and hardware, plus their monthly fee for the internet connection, so why should they provide it to you for free? Just because some places do, doesn't mean that all places should. Most chain coffee shops charge - it's not free at Starbucks, nor is it free at the cafes at Borders and Barnes and Nobles.

    There are a few neighborhood places with free Wi-Fi - perhaps the best thing to do would be to go there and let the owners of Ozzies know why.

    i agree it's not the worse thing in the world but ... I don't believe there should be a charge for it. They decided to put the pc's in and they make money from the ones they 'rent' out. we get so desensitized to everything being commercialized that at some point we won't even notice.

    i didn't go in ozzie's to use WiFi but I thought... oh let me check my email... and that's when I discovered this.

    I agree re: going elsewhere and letting them know... if they'll care.

    Well I wouldnt so much care if the coffee didnt SUCK!!!! I mean for god sake your an espresso/coffee shop - Learn how to make an espresso at LEAST as good(read:bad) as Starbucks. (and the pasteries stink too)

    ahh but maybe there is hope - a new place called the Comfortzone Cafe has opened on 5th btwn 1st and 2nd and I tried an espresso this AM - pretty good for NY - short w/crema and not burnt or bitter - BTW FREE WIFI

    Who said WiFi should be free? I think charging for access is a great idea ad $6 minimum is a great way of seperating the leechers from the customers who need WiFi access. Reasonable fee for a real use.

    In fact most places actually do charge or place limits on use.

    I'd complain about the quality of Ozzie's coffee. It used to be the only small coffee shop years ago and the stuff was halfway decent then. Nowadays it's as if they ALWAY burn their coffee. Yeesh. Get with it Ozzie's!
