yeah. my parents are fostering a bunch of dogs displaced from the houston shelter system b/c of influx from the katrina aftermath. so they're figuring out post-hurricane supplies for themselves, 4 cats and 5 dogs as well as evacuation techniques for all. I don't envy them one bit. thankfully, they live in the heights, so if they stay for some ungodly reason, they'll avoid any flooding that houston is so well known for.

p.s. how much will gas go up if all the refineries between beaumont and houston get nailed? eh? riddle me that! -
If there were any justice in this world, the hurricane would miss Houston and hit Crawford! Unfortunately, I think Crawford is too far inland.

I'm sure there are plenty of innocent people in Crawford who don't deserve to be hit by a hurricane. -

Yeah, but if somewhere has to be hit, you can bet that the government response in Crawford would be better than anywhere else. Maybe Bush would even show up. -
do you think that this series of gulf hurricane might, JUST might, get the petroleum companies sufficiently concerned about greenhouse gasses and global warming? or will they just cushion the fall from their destroyed gulf platforms with increased profit margins?

No, it'll just strengthen extreme right-winger's ideas about armegeddon and a New World Order. -

Time to buy oil futures and Home Depot stock. I think it's sick how much money can be made off other people's misfortune.

I'm just relieved that the powers that be moved all the evacuees from New Orleans to a location far from the hurricane-ridden Gulf Coast. You gotta hand it to our government officials.

the port of houston extends into galveston bay. also, a lot of houston is below sea level, so it is especially prone to flooding (remember the flood a few years ago?). the projections cnn was showing this morning were horrifying.
