Murder-Suicide at Park Slope Hair Salon

Did anybody know the lady who ran this hair salon? WABC says she was "immensely popular" with her clientele:

WABC reports: "A hair salon owner was gunned-down in Brooklyn Monday by a man believed to have been her boyfriend who then turned the gun on himself and committed suicide. It happened at 11:45 a.m. at Dolores and Alex Hair Stylists on 11th Street in the Park Slope neighborhood."

"Witnesses say the gunman walked into the salon and confronted the woman in a back room, then shot her point blank in the head. He turned the gun on himself, and died on the scene ... The woman, who has not yet been identified, was still alive in the moments after the shooting and was rushed to Methodist Hospital."

"The gunman's body remained in the salon, with a semi-automatic pistol lying in a pool of blood beside him ... The victim was immensely popular with her clients, many of whom crowded outside the crime scene in shock."

  • Hair salon on 11th? Is this next to cafe Regular, right off of 5th Ave? I think if it was popular it was with people who probably don't read this site.
  • What are you trying to say? That people who read this site don't care about their personal appearance?
  • This was actually on 7Online.com a while ago ... they fixed it, though.
"This happened inside of a barbershop on 11th Street near 5th Avenue in Park Slope shortly after 11:30 am Police tell us two people were shit inside of this shop ..."
  • Subject: Hair Salon

First of all, that comment in which someone said "the people who went there do not read this site" is clearly racial as it was a hispanic salon. So you're trying to say that her clientele do not bother going on message boards like you yuppies do. I used to get my hair done there, and she worked on me several times. It is a shame to see what happened to her. May she rest in peace.
  • Ben you faggot, your quote: "I think if it was popular it was with people who probably don't read this site."

Who are you? Did you know her? I knew her and her family for years. Your comment shows your lack of respect for someone who has passed away. There are many many many many people who miss her and have been affected by her passing. So while you feel nothing since you didn't know her, keep your stupid comments to urself.

Oh, and just an fyi. Hispanics are the largest minority in the US and will be the majority in an estmated 20 years. So you better learn how to deal with the "people who probably don't read this site".
  • ok, ok. Ben was being presumptious, but I think it's also presumptious to assume that he was being racist.

Since the subject came up: readership of this site is remarkably and surprisingly diverse, racially. What we DON'T have is diversity of socioeconomic groups, meaning the poor and computerless can't and don't access the Internet as much as you do. That could all change soon:

The MIT Media Lab has launched a new research initiative to develop a $100 laptop--a technology that could revolutionize how we educate the world's children. To achieve this goal, a new, non-profit association, One Laptop per Child (OLPC), has been created. The initiative was first announced by Nicholas Negroponte, Lab chairman and co-founder, at the World Economic Forum at Davos, Switzerland in January 2005.

What is the $100 Laptop, really?
The proposed $100 machine will be a Linux-based, full-color, full-screen laptop that will use innovative power (including wind-up) and will be able to do most everything except store huge amounts of data. These rugged laptops will be WiFi- and cell phone-enabled, and have USB ports galore. Its current specifications are: 500MHz, 1GB, 1 Megapixel.
