2/3 Station — Brooklynian

2/3 Station

edited November -1 in Prospect Heights
I had 5 young guys try and rob me this morning in the stairwell of the Eastern Parkway 2/3 station at about 10 AM this morning. No one was around and they tried blocking me but I took off out of the station and onto the street where there were people around and walking to the station so they booked it out of there. I'm in no mood for mugging #2.

  • wow! at 10 a.m.? start taking the Q to work -- there are always people in that station.
  • Sorry to hear that, D. Hope your luck improves. 10 am? jeez. :x
  • Yeah, normally i take it at 8:30 and it's hopping but i needed to be home for a FED EX delivery of a brand new laptop, which thankfully, I decided to leave at home rather than indulge my geeky toy fixation and bring it with me.
  • That sucks! I take the 2 from EP/BM to work all the time and haven't had a problem yet. I guess I've just been lucky.

At least you got away ok this time though.
  • Which stairwell? Park Slope or Prospect side of flatbush? Was the MEtro news guy there?

Wrong station, Captain M. He's talking about the Eastern Parkway, not Grand Army.

Never a problem before either. In fact that was my "safe" station because it's straight from my door, down a busy street to the station, rather than walking through the quiet streets to the Q (mainly for when I'm out at night). It was pretty weird. There were people walking towards the station when i ran out and there was a transit cop a half block down the street. I guess they were pumped or something and thought a few seconds in an empty stairwell was going to do it.

I'm sorry to hear that, Dave. Please inform the cops/MTA while this is fresh in your mind. This should get their undivided fucking attention. It sounds like these punks have an m.o. worked out, so they may try to hit other stations.
  • Fucking punks. I hope they get what they deserve.

Sorry to hear about this. But I would report the attempt to the local precinct.

As far as the potential muggers go, how old? High School age?

Oh, they will... but I hope that it's sooner rather than later.

It's shit like this that makes me want to go all vigilante... or at least sit on roof top with a bb gun...
  • I second calling the precinct.

Maybe filling out a report, so it's official.
  • I agree - you should report it.

EP/BM is also my safe station - I always take it 'outbound' (eg, so I;m waiting there) although I take Franklin Ave home if its a decent time, to skip the 2/3->4/5 transfer. Jeez.
  • I'm halfway between, so I usually go to EP/BM if I'm Flatbush-bound and GAP if I'm Manhattan-bound (although I definitely prefer the Q whenever it's a viable option based on my destination). Of the 3 stations, I've always considered EP/BM the most dangerous, if only because of how crowded the other ones tend to be.

Nybt- I know you were joking, but the BB gun on the rooftop thing is a really bad idea. Especially after the sniper thing a few years ago, you would be in totally deep shit if you ever got caught doing something like that. They wouldn't care about your motives at all.
  • Sling shot?

I know! I know! It would be a lot of fun, and me and my Red Ryder would clean up the neighborhood, but I'd never seriously consider it... shit, I can barely find time enough to kick your ass in manly pursuits like Connect Four!

    Keep dreaming, tough guy!

I dare you to join in on Brooklyn Monopoly!

It's a good thing that you didn't triple dog dare me!

I'm actually not a big fan of Monopoly anymore- when I had enough time to devote hours to the game, my brother and I would have some knock-down, drag-out confrontations... now I get impatient and I make rash decisions to get it over with, good or bad... usually bad.

Anyway, I would Connect Four the hell out of those punks!
  • please report it....was the token booth clerk there or are that station now part of the brilliant  new MTA wandering token booth plan.....
  • Also, if it's a closed down token booth--or a token booth with limited hours--I'd also recommend contacting folks at the Straphangers Campaign and even contact transit reporter Bobby Cuza at NY1. NY1 does have great coverage of subway and commuter issues and something like this--if it is the result of a token booth closing--is something they would be interested in.
