Subject: What's Happening On St. Johns Place???

Hello All...
I'm getting reliable reports that something has happened on St. Johns between Underhill and Washington...lots of police cars, vans, and police helicopters flying overhead...anyone know what's going on?

  • I'm on Sterling, same block though. There's one definate police helicopter doing tight circles over my building and two other helicopters hovering up there. I don't know if they're police or news choppers. I'm hearing lots of sirens. I'll try to figure out what's going on.

    -Poor white girl.
  • I hear it, too. I'm about to go out and investigate.
  • I think it would probably be better if you stayed off the street.
  • Subject: me too...

I was going in my building on the corner of St. John's and Underhill just as 5 or 6 police cars (some unmarked) were pulling away from the corner. I asked a guy who was standing around and he said some guy took off up St. John's (towards Washington) with many police in pursuit (not sure if it was on foot, or by vehicle). Have a feeling they have him cornered or something...
  • Maybe they're raiding the last crack den.
  • Damn! forgot to load up for the weekend.
  • According to the police officer I spoke to: "They're looking for one of the guys in that building." He didn't know if said guy was still inside or not. Another man asked him, "It's not one of them terrorist is it?" He shook his head no.
There are 50 million police vehicles there and still more arriving. What fun! I'm gonna check to see if the "guy" is in the backyard.
  • which building?
  • "that building" - where exactly?

Gah...I asked the same question as everyone else. I hope my poor cat isn't getting scared to death...
  • I can always count on you guys to fill me in. I was just going to ask why the hell I've had to listen to a helicopter over my head for the past 30 min or so. You guys are always on the case...
  • It's on St. Johns between Washington & Underhill, closer to Washington. I don't know the number, but since some of yal may be out work I'll go find out. Give me a few minutes.
  • I just deleted the duplicate topics, hope no one minds...
  • whoa! as long as the jerk stays off the rooftops I won't worry. with my newly acquired roof rights in my building between sterling & st. johns on washington I get a little nervous about someone trampling my rights.

The took off as quickly as they appeared, with no explanations, and apparently, no one apprehended. It's a good thing they didn't have to walk from their parking spot to the station this morning or they would have been way too tired to disrupt the neighborhood this way.
  • Could it have been one of those terrorist drills that they reportedly practice? I've heard those involve lots of cops arriving in one place simultaneously.
  • Subject: it's a parked car

I'm on Lincoln between Wash / Underhill and I walked out to Washington on a lead from my super. A cop staked at the top of St. John's said that a man they are looking for parked his car on the block and so they suspect he's still on the block or at least in the area. I asked if I should be wary of walking the streets at the moment and he said "I don't know, we don't know what kind of man he is until we find him"

...well he must be somebody pretty important, to warrant all this attention.
  • 5:30 and they are still hovering and circling...i would think 1010wins would be here by now.
  • I've got 5:27 and suddenly, the helicopters are noticeably quieter...

...seems to be further over into Crown Heights now.

Quieter on this side too. Still there, but they must have moved a little.

  • I just came back from the scene. The cops aren't giving up any info. They're looking for some guy who did something. They aren't raiding any of the buildings, though. Some "eye wittnesses" said they saw some guy take off. They didn't see him come out of any building, though and they have no idea what he did. There is a double parked car that has the bejesus scrapped off of it. Could have been done by an emergencey vehicle or maybe the guy took off in a car and scraped it. It doesn't appear that "if" anyone was in the car they would have been seriously injured. The helicopter seems to have adjusted it's position. I assume this "guy" is still on the loose cause there are still tons of police around.
  • has anyone else noticed that the google.ads at the top of the page are now for "used helicopters" and such? heh.
  • mc wrote: They aren't raiding any of the buildings, though.
They're full of shit. One of the girls at the corner of Sterling and Underhill said a bunch of cops were charging up the stairs of her building with their guns drawn. Sorry I didn't get the building number.
  • please everyone... support DAILY HEIGHTS advertisers. :)

(also, I think mc was saying that they weren't raiding the buildings while she was there, not that they weren't raiding buildings, period.)
  • maybe they're on the hunt for the public garbage can thief!

all i'm saying he better have gotten the heck outta crown heights by the time i get home.

You'd just better hope they don't get the bright idea that he might have fled through the subway tracks, and decide to shut down the subway. :x
