Would you leave Prospect Heights? — Brooklynian

Would you leave Prospect Heights?

If the Atlantic Yards are developed as proposed by Forest City Ratner, will you move?

Comments

  • Well, according to most people, I don't live in Prospect Heights, though I doubt I will be any less affected by Ratner in my apartment that is 25 ft from Washington Ave than everyone else. ;)

However, I am in the process of moving farther into Crown Heights (just to Franklin), and I'm a bit relieved about it honestly. The realtors I've been in contact with have not expressed much optimism about the project and one even went so far as to say, "I wouldn't want to be living in Prospect Heights while that construction was going on".

That being said, if I could afford to by a property in Prospect Heights equivalent to what I'm buying on Franklin, I probably would.
  • I'm not terribly concerned, but I'm on Washington between Sterling & St. Johns. I rarely go past St. Marks, so I doubt I'll notice much of anything except, perhaps, traffic issues coming from Manhattan. also, I just bought my place so moving is the last thing I want to do. I'm all about nesting.
  • Subject: No move for me

Nope. I'm staying right here. I love my apartment, and even though I don't want to see ratnerville I don't think it's quite the End Times event a lot of people think it is.

I've lived near construction before, and while it's not fun it's not as bad as many people think.
  • The question is not if but when. The housing prices here have gone batty. We were able to find a 1 bedroom co-op in Ditmas Park for $200K and we feel we are lucky. We will probably be moving by the end of November after nine years in Prospect Heights.

Basically, we ruled out Queens because we have too many friends here. Sunset Park is still too scetchy as far as I'm concerned. Bay Ridge is just too far. Bed Stuy is out of the question. Ditmas Park is my pick for next Proho. It's still on the Q/B line and it's still close to Prospect Park.
  • guess we will see what happens.... what else can we do?!
  • Well, I'm moving out of state after Thanksgiving anyway, but if I weren't, I'd definitely stay. Though, like t-fal, I'm fairly out of the line of fire.
  • i kept saying i would move if the deal went through...but even to contemplate it makes me very very sad. i kinda fell in love with this 'nabe many years ago. still, if the socioculturaleconomic mix were to change substantively...off to bed-stuy am i.
