Is this really a nasty block? I want to know more.

    Noisey... But fine!
  • As I said, in terms of rodents and street garbage, yuck, way worse than most blocks, because it's never cleaned. The block of sixth ave between dean and bergen is a police parking lot! And all that comes with it. After 9/11 it was completely blocked off to motorists for over 3 months, no matter that there are residents and businesses on that block. And the police regularly block it off if there is some type of "alert" or if a politician is in town. They also park the police carts ON THE SIDEWALK, blocking walkers. You deal with alot more "activity" of all kinds because of that. Hey, they have no-where else to park, I understood that, and if there's a problem, they have to get out quick. But still. I didn't realize the extent of it until after I rented the storefront. There was also a great deal of homeless and shelter people who hang on that block. Why? I don't know. But I cleaned up the trash they left on my bench every damned day. I've seen shelter residents let their small children urinate and DEFECATE, yes, that's CHILDREN, not dogs, in that treewell in broad daylight there. The homeless and shelter population hangout ratio exploded after Ratner bought out most of the regular working people on Pacific and environs, and they moved out, which depleted the area of normality. I had a few very good years there, before the arena scam ruined it. Am I now glad to now be on Vanderbilt? Oh sweet baby Jebus, YES.
  • Thanks for the information. This is very helpful, and I really appreciate it.
