Rash of break-ins? — Brooklynian

Rash of break-ins?

I overheard one of my neighbors outside my window this morning saying that there was a rash of daytime break-ins in the neighborhood last week (I'm in CH, on Grand near Fulton). Wasn't dressed, so I couldn't go out to get the scoop. Has anyone heard anything similar?

  • yes, go to the ft greene kids yahoo group. lots of them on gates/cambridge, etc. waverly/lafayette, lafayette/carlton, etc..
  • I'll check that out, if they'll let non-kid types join!

Coincidentally, my husband is home changing the locks on our back door. Not that it makes a whole lot of difference when there are nine panes of glass for easy entry, but...

This should give me added incentive to back up everything on my laptop.
  • Subject: more break ins

heard from a friend that there were two break ins on south oxford during the day yesterday...get deadbolts.
  • Can anyone provide add'l details from the FGKids group for us non-members?
  • Why is there a FGKids Yahoo Group, and not a FGPeople Yahoo Group? Or is there one already?
  • pretty much what i wrote...

ppl entering thru backyards, thru windows or doors w/o deadbolts or gates. stealing laptops, etc.

no dogs barked, no one noticed. no nannies on alert, nothing.

i thin kgarden level apts are the ones at risk. the duplexes without decks or stairs going up to the windows/doors are pretty safe, i think.

    but you never know...
  • Sigh...garden apartments, like mine. But yeah, we did put deadbolts in, and our landlords are home most of the time. Oy, can't they tell we have nothing worth stealing?

What the hell do thieves do with laptops, anyway? Is there a Boosted Laptop Emporia that I don't know about? Maybe I'll put a sign in our vulnerable window that says: "It's a reconditioned 2001 Dell with a bum cd-drive. Don't bother."

Well, take a look at craigslist some time - you'll see all sorts of shady things for sale.
  • There's a wicked shady shop on Flatbush that buys used cell phones and laptops. I've always figured that for the "go to" place for boosted gear.
