TAKE ACTION NOW: Tell City Council Speaker Gifford Miller to Hold Hearings on Atlantic Yards
Last week, May 4th, the date on which the Economic Development Committee of the New York City Council WAS SUPPOSED TO HOLD HEARINGS on Forest City Ratner’s Atlantic Yards proposal.
That hearing, however, is NOT GOING TO HAPPEN, because Council Speaker Gifford Miller has REFUSED to put it on the Council’s calendar, and has not returned phone calls and inquiries from Council Member Letitia James regarding the scheduling of the hearings.
Please CALL Speaker Miller today, at 212-788-7210, to demand that these hearings be held in May as previously announced by the Council. The Speaker has been an outspoken critic of the West Side Stadium proposal, and we will not accept a double standard when it comes to Forest City Ratner and the Atlantic Yards.
Help stop the Speaker’s obstruction!
1. PLEASE CALL SPEAKER MILLER TODAY.
2. Forward this email to three friends and ask that they do the same.
3. If you’re a member of any list-serve groups (or a blogger), please post this message.
There’s great strength in numbers, and we all need to work together to ensure that these hearings take place before the City Council votes on its annual budget, which currently includes a $100 million allocation earmarked for Ratner’s project.

Subject: just called
The very nice lady who answered the phone there said...
"Oh, a lot of people have been calling about that."
I was then sent to the Miller's press office to find out his stand on the project. Hopefully, some one will call me back. -
I called, the lady was nice but I was forwarded to the "opinion line" which was just basically leaving a message.

Subject: It's starting
I've spoken to his press people- I think they thought I was part of the press- 212-788-7116 (press office)
I've spoken to his office- Jonathan answered the phone-
212-535-5554 (Speaker Miller's office)
Jonathan told me that he is opposed to the stadium downtown- evidently he meant midtown Manhattan (I pointed out that isn't downtown) And that he thinkis the stadium might be better in another borough.
I've started pointing out that if he is planning on running for mayor- he might want to think about areas outside his district.
Supposedly some one will get back to me.
