Anyone read this book-A Million Little Pieces by james Frey?

Well, Boaty, for what it's worth, I would suggest that you hang in there.
Granted, Frey's story is pretty intense -- and it remains so throughout; he's a 'tough guy' character who truly hits bottom and the book can be a pretty painful read. However, when he comes over to the flip side, he brings the reader with him and it's quite wonderful. His ability to capture the horrors of addiction and the very tenuous and often fragile nature of sobriety is quite amazing, particularly given the young age at which he wrote that book. I hear the sequel is quite good as well.
I'd be interested in hearing what you think when you're done. -
I'd say finish too. And take it all with a grain of salt. It's intense, and gritty, and also has parts that reek of BS. Nonetheless, a good read. Don't waste any sympathy on it though, Frey's the kind of guy who'd take a bat to your head for showing him sympathy.

Maybe, maybe not.
I actually think the last thing he's looking for is sympathy. He realizes early on he's got a great deal of strength, strength that a lot of the people he encounters in the rehab do not. It's those people toward whom he shows the greatest concern and compassion. -
Subject: Another Bullshit Night in Suck City
I've been meaning to read this book for a while, now I'm in a mad rush to do so, before it gets the "Oprah Book Club" seal on the cover!
Ironically, I just bought a copy on Amazon and sent it to my brother. I don't know whether I'll get a copy from the BPL waiting list or just wait to borrow his.
I just finished "Another Bullshit Night in Suck City" by Nick Flynn and highly reccomend it. A different kind of story about addiction and loss. Totally made me look every homeless person I encounter in a different way. -
Too late - Oprah's seal is on it!
