What do you wish for in ProHo?

Bowling is generally played in an alley.
I would like to see one open here, but I doubt one would. The trend citywide has been for bowling alley closings.
Has anyone tried street bowling? It is where you set up pins in the street and you try to strike them down. Of course, you need a few people (someone to set up the pins, someone to get the ball, etc.), but it is a lot of fun. You just close off traffic w/ trash cans and yellow tape and have a go at it. -

I take shit from Stop 'n Slop all the time. Have you ever had to run out of the supermarket with a thick slice of prepackaged ham in your pants after security catches you? I give myself the five finger discount and fill my pockets with Brach's caramels, neapolitans, and toffees. I'm keeping it real and keeping corporate america from running the coop.
Respect. -

If you're trying to be a douchebag, congrats Vanilla! You win!
wow. maybe you should stay at the park slope co-op if you are going to be like that. -

Actually, if you bug someone more than once with a smarmy backhanded statement, expect what you get. Sorry for the harsh, but FWIW I'm not in ProHo at all. So I leave it to you dear Vanilla, to run the place. -
You seem aggressive, Jack.

Apologies to all for 'going blue' when responding to Vanilla. I should have dealt with that privately. I'll edit the post and pull that out.

an Ethiopian place (maybe spun off from Ghenet - the best Ethio in the boros) would be more than swell... -
A hair salon that caters to white folks' hair.

Salon Strategy on Vandy - I've seen everyone's hair in there - they're really nice people!

For all it's worth - love your passion, Jack!
Your humbility is warming too... -

Thanks, Boaty. 7th Ave haircuts have gotten stupidly expensive. Also, it looks like you're 14 posts away from Grand Master! -

There is a very small butcher section in the back of the Key Food on Flatbush (Sterling. & Park). It's better than nothing. So far all I've bought from there was very fresh hamburger meat. I'm gonna try one of those stuffed cornish game hens one of these days.
I'd vote for a real butcher shop, btw. -

I appreciate the tip, but I've been to the yuppie Key Food on Flatbush plenty of times, and that is definitely not a butcher shop. It's just the meat section of a supermarket. -

Fair enough. I did say, it was better than nothing (on retrospect, I should've said "maybe"). I forgot to mention that I'd also love a real butcher shop in the area.
At the GAP farmer's market, I love the place with the spicey turkey sausage. And the produce there can't be beat.

Dude, you're going to make Jack have a seizure!

Yeah. I asked around the met, key foods, associated, etc. and nobody sells human anymore. What gives? -

El Carneviento is people! -
In no particular order:
Bank
Chinese
Bakery
Pharmacy (something closer than DR or Kings)
Book Store -
A lot of these are taken from what other folks have said...
-bowling alley (bowling is huge in Mpls - big hang out places)
-bar/laundrymat
-independent and/or second run movie theatre
-24 hour diner
-Gap
-Starbucks
-professional sports team - perhaps an NBA team
(kidding on those last 3) -
A gun store - to equip myself for gunshots
A lock store - so you can "lock you doors"
A liquor store - so I can numb the pain of gunwounds from gunshots that went through my locked door
A gun/lock/liquor/tobacco superstore - so I don't have to make so many trips
A pawn shop - so I can sell my possesions to buy guns, liquor, tobacco, and locks
-

BAM (http://www.bam.org), one of the best--if not THE best--indy theaters in the city is within walking distance. Another one closer by wouldn't hurt, I'll grant you, but it could be worse.

I would like a dentist that "caters to cowards," but the only one I can find is in Crown Heights. Good thing I technically live there!
-
i want the following:
a liquor store that carries sailor jerry rum
a place where i can get a decent and real veggie tamale
a place where i can purchase unspoiled and affordable produce
a thai restaurant on par with sea
a vietnamese restaurant
i am a wanna be glutton who is not living up to her potential. -
I want a quality record/music store.

KateBklyn wrote: I want a quality record/music store.
I would agree, mostly because I like hanging out in record stores. I wind up buying most of my stuff on Amazon now. I rarely have to go into the city to buy music- even for moderately obscure stuff. I'm not sure it's a great time to be opening a record store here. Judging by the conversation at the DH Happy Hour last week, most DHers don't buy music (just download). -
Carnivore wrote: most DHers don't buy music (just download).
But, some of us go to a lot of concerts! And I just bought my first CD in almost 2 years last night! -

I do neither. I just sit at home and slap big, greasy slabs of meat against the wall. That's music to my ears.
Where the fuck are my meds... MOTHER!!!! :x -
Did the "wishing" idea come from last week's This American Life? Just curious.
I wish for a good Used Book Store.
And [wait for it] a Cupcake Bakery.
-
I still buy a lot of music and just like being in record store but it's true about most folks doing on online. I can dream...
