I dunno, but you all are scaring me. More talk about drinks, people who drink too much, and board games, less about geek codes and such. Kthanxbye.

haha. I will probably be at soda sometime tonight -- must have an excuse to dodgeball them to keep them on the top 10 venue list and all.
• People please, I actually look up to you. Looked up to you. What the fuck. Perhaps we could go back to talking about daveb's spackling preferences?

Ball-spacklers represent!!! 8)
• Subject: since this thread has already been hijacked

the three people that read my blog are being little bitches because I've been too busy to post and have started emailing me "You have to post!". I'm thinking this behavoir is so obnoxious, I should let daveb guest blog for me and tell them the cake-mix wedgie story. That will teach them a lesson.
• Outgeek this suggestion:

How about we all bring laptops to Soda and hook them together so we can play LAN games?
• We would all have to have copies of the same game... not that *cough* can't be *nudge*...um, arranged.

this is giving me flashbacks of playing doom in college ... ack.
sounds like fun!!
• alafairnadia wrote:
oooh nooo i draw the line at d&d. that's just right out.
actually, I kinda do too. though I think it would be really amusing in some revisit-my-childhood sort of way. it'd be like a bad episode of angel -- playing d&d in the back of a bar.

That's why we d+d'ers look down our noses at you second level dorks.

Speaking of levels, I'm hoping Miss Vickers makes it to 4th level this coming sunday. Don't worry, I'll post details of the adventures and slayings of Orcs, half-orcs, and tiny dogmen.
• From "Overheard In New York" today:

Sort of relevent to this thread (actually, just so funny I wanted to share it, but had to find an excuse). :D
• That's excellent, and also illustrates why, even though I am occasionally interested in graphic novels and comics, I won't go in Midtown Comics.
• EmilyM wrote: That's excellent, and also illustrates why, even though I am occasionally interested in graphic novels and comics, I won't go in Midtown Comics.
Because you don't want to mix with guys who don't masturate or because you don't want to risk becoming so enthralled that you'll be tempted to give up mastubation?
• I just love that masturbation was basically the only thing he had to give up to focus exclusively on comic books. That was his one distraction!

Actually, he said that, but what he was actually thinking was:

"I'm going to give up comic books so I can focus exclusively on masturbation." :P
• Because I don't want to mix with guys whose lives have as their two competing focusses comic books and masturbation?
• I don't want wankers with sticky hands touching my comic books.
• Where do you keep them, then?
• EmilyM wrote: Where do you keep them, then?
Polybagged in storage.
• daveb-
weren't you mentioning that you had your Wonder Woman and Elektra comics laminated?

Just don't ask me what they're laminated with...uh...heh...um...

Windex- great for streaks on plastic, too!
• alafairnadia wrote:
Okay, you win. I stayed up all night reading this book but it didn't really seem worthwhile, so I doubt I'll do the midnight thing again, let alone fly anywhere.
it's really just an excuse to fly to london. like "I have to go to london because of ... harry potter!" also, getting the book overnighted to me is like 1/6 of a round trip plane ticket. might as well cough up the remaining 5/6 and maybe toodle around europe a bit.

looks like we should invite emma watson to soda next time we have an ultra nerd/harry potter happy hour. she likes beer.

thanks for the link, Candicissima! :D:D
• alafairnadia wrote:

you will not believe the absurd amount of money I spent getting the UK edition overnighted to me when it came out. I am the dork-princess.
Okay, but is it more or less dorky to go to a bookstore full of children at midnight to get the book the day it comes out and then additionally order the "deluxe" edition from the UK, which comes out later? Of course, that was partly me and partly Mr. M, so there's two of us to spread the dorkiness amongst.

ahem. for book 7's release I've already promised a group of crazed dorks on LJ that I'll fly to London, stand in line with british children, and stay up all night with them reading it/analyzing it, etc. I am the biggest weirdo ever. not really. I'm not going to http://www.witchinghour.org/.
but I really want to.

Since YOU just bumped this thread, does anyone have any additional geekly confessions? Hmmm?
• well, topping my previous confessions, I registered for Lumos. feel free to mock me.
• alafairnadia wrote: well, topping my previous confessions, I registered for Lumos. feel free to mock me.
You have got to be kidding...
• Carnivore wrote:
well, topping my previous confessions, I registered for Lumos. feel free to mock me.

 um. no. not kidding. first of all, it's an awesome excuse to go to vegas. I'm not going to sit in some room and listen to 15 year olds debate snape's innocence -- I'm going to be gambling. secondly, I have way too many friends who are dorks and uh. they're all gonna be there. it's a great way to hang out with people who live all over the world that you would otherwise never see. and er, third, I'M A GODDAMNED DORK. you know this.

anyway. I'm waiting for someone to top this confession. I think the only people who could, pens and daveb, aren't on the board anymore. makes me weep a bit.
• I went to the comic book convention last weekend....
• I really enjoy the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire video game. At first I just got it because I wanted a game and I wasn't sure what would be good, but I find it genuinely fun.
