Best hair salons?

I've tried a few place on 7th for haircuts. I'm still searching for that perfect place.
- Elan Day Spa -- I went here a few times and thought I had found "the" place. But then one time I had an unfortunate incident with highlights and will never go back.
- Medusa - I went once for a haircut and color. Wasn't thrilled with it, esp for the price.
- Color & Cut - This is a small place on the second floor of a building near President (I think). I've gone twice and the owner has always done my cut and I've been the only one there. It's nothing fancy, but reasonably priced. I probably wouldn't go if I were going to try something drastically different, but it's good for touchups and trims. -
I tried Chandelier once and I have to say it was a crap haircut--hard to screw up my boring long layers, but she did. It was cheap, though. And I'm sure the skill of the different stylists varies wildly. This was 3 years ago, so whoever botched my head probably isn't even there anymore. It wasn't the owner.

My girlfriend got one great haircut from Chandelier.
When she went back . . . not so great. But they were nice -- and offered to fix the crap haircut for free! -
Color & Cut gave me the worst haircut I've ever had. The layering was ridiculously uneven and four inches shorter than I'd asked for. The rest of my hair was two inches shorter than I'd asked for. Never again.
Medusa was half decent (meaning the half that was adequateldy lit), but I'd never go back there, either.
I'd love to hear some good reccomendations, too. -
not in the 'hood, but at least in brooklyn:
Marcie (used to be at Bumble and Bumble, great with all sorts of hair -- straight, wavy, curly) at Deluxe in Williamsburg. North 4th and Roebling. 718.387.2970. I used to see her at B&B in midtown, followed her to the meatpacking district location, and now see her at Deluxe. I have super curly, crazy hair and she does a great job with it. another friend of mine goes to her and has straight hair, and loves her, too. yet another friend who moved to London used her when she lived in NYC and loves her short, wavy cut. so ... there's my reco. -
I went to Le Chandelier over the summer - and hated it. I couldn't bring myself to go back and have her fix it because I had so little hair left. (She took off at least 3 inches more than I wanted - and concentrated the chopping on one side of my head).
It has finally grown out enough that I need another cut. I think I'll try Medusa. The one by Flatbush is easier for me to get to - but the one further into PS has a better Citysearch rating... -
I just got a rave recommendation for Lila at the Medusa on 7th, so I'm giving it a shot next week. Hopefully I can report back with good news! I think I am going to go for a big change in style, so there is much at stake....

OK: I wanted mod/Godard, I got 1970 Black Sabbath. But I don't think it's the hair stylist's fault. When will I ever learn that "bush" is the only medium-short look my hair is capable of?
Anyway, they're very nice there. -
Well, it sounds like my best bet is to keep going back to the Burg for my twice a year hair cuts. I do love the Beehive, I just hate the now completely bad commute to get there.
-
I really like Le Chandelier. I've seen every stylist there and have never had a bad haircut. The prices are great too.
Perhaps I've just been lucky, but I have no complaints. -
Try Elements on Fifth Ave and 3rd Street. I've been going for a few years now and really like it. A long hair cut is about 40 bucks...

Tara, the owner of Le Chandelier has been cutting my hair for ages, and I trust her implicitly. They are quite moderately priced, and offer free touch-up bang trims to boot. Give 'em a shot and stay local.

I get my hair done with the owner of Salon Bohemia on 7th Ave and 15th St, although there are other stylists there. It does cost more than an average haircut, but I've never been disappointedGuest wrote: I just moved over to the neighborhood. Where can I get a haircut that won't cost half of my paycheck but also won't make me run crying with disappointment when it's done? I pass the Chandelier place everyday, and it looks like it might be ok. Any opinions?

Natasha @ Medusa in Park Slope was AMAZING. She fixed my bad Le Chandalier haircut. I've now found my stylist in Brooklyn, thank God. -
Subject: Best Hair Salon?? - PAMONA!!!
I must weigh in on this one!!
When I moved to Brooklyn from the UK this past January, one of the toughest things to leave was my hairdresser. NY is tough for haircuts if you have short hair like me and want a pixie haircut that's feminine and doesn't cost $100 a go. I went to a few places in Brooklyn and Manhattan with no success (or rather with total failure) - and then I found Laurie at Pamona on 7th Ave (and 14th or 15th - can't remember) - in Park Slope.
She is AMAZING. Knows how to work with different hair types and textures, knows the subtleties of cut and shape, and is pretty inexpensive as far as salons go - I pay about $60 with tip. Yes, more than I'd like, but at least I am always pleased with the results and always leave feeling great about myself. -
I go to Joseph's Haircutting Salon on 7th and Union. I go to Lana, it's cheap and I have VERY thick, slightly coarse hair past my shoulders and she works very well with my hair, and it's only $35 for a female cut!
-
I go to Salon Strategy on Vanderbilt betw Park and Prospect - they're excellent.
-
I've been going to Andrea Palumbos in Prospect Heights for years. I recently had her chop 11 inches off my hair (for donation) and she gave me the cutest cut! She really understands how hair moves and how a cut will grow out. I highly recommend her.

Who owns that salon? -
thumbs down for bohemia. if you don't mind a poor quality cut then go somewhere cheaper.
And stay AWAY from slope suds or suds on the slope whatever it's called - 16th on 7th. They gave me an AWFUL cut, they ttly rushed, didn't blend and certainly they didn't listen to what I wanted - AWFUL. And when I told them that I was really disappointed with my cut they offered to fix it for 20% off of ANOTHER haircut. No, they weren't kidding. -

I love Michael at Michael's Hair Salon
-
Harmony at 7 7th Avenue - both my daughter and I go to Jesse - great stylist/color, conversationalist, great music - everyone's helpful, friendly and upbeat.
-
Josephs on 7th. Might seem too old school to get a great hair cut-but guess that's why they're there! From kid cuts to curly hair-they know what' they're doing. Haven't had much luck at any of these places that others rave about.

I am a big fan on Salon de la Rue on 7th avenue and 11th Street. Get everything done there.
Howdy, Stranger!
