Simpsons Clue?
yeah! I'm in! -
daveb wrote: [quote=Cupcake]Hell, I even really like daveb, a person who routinely tells me to stick my baked goods where the sun don't shine.
just for that, I'm going out right now and slaughtering a baby cupcake! I'll paint the walls with it's fucking frosting!
daveb, everytime you spackle yourself, the baby jesus kills a cupcake. that's why I have to spend all weekend in my hobbit hole baking- to replenish the stock. -
Thanks for the testimonials, guys. But let's get back to the real issue, which is "Who is the real BigBubba?"
Oh, no, sorry. I meant, "What are we playing next week?" -
As I said both last week and this week before Taboo, I think we really do better with games that don't require people whose turn it isn't to pay a lot of attention; it kills conversation and is hard to keep up with in a bar.
Therefore, I recommend Candyland. I'm sure we'll still find a way to do a lot of trash-talking. Take that, Lord Licorice! -
Simpsons Clue is good, but there's a finite number of people who can play. I have Uno and Cranium.

Cupcake wrote: What's the lesson here? Reserve judgement and anything else you want to pass/cast until you meet someone in person. And I'm posting this here instead of in a PM because I think we could all benefit from this reminder.
Actually, the real lesson is that all online communities are prone to nepotism and turning a blind-eye when certain longer-term members act like complete jerks. And supporting a 'group think' mentality where there is only one group/clique view and all others are deemed invalid by the clique. Regardless of any proof that actually supports the non-clique mentality.
Sorry to say, but I think I'll leave disparraging of local businesses like "Heights Coffee", "Aunt Suzies" and the Food Coop to those on DH who are more "in the know" than I. DH should really post a list of businesses that are accepted and those that are going to be "pig-piled" on by the intelligensia of the core of DH regulars. Seriously, because it does exist.
If you're name is not Carnivore, the rest might not interest you. Or maybe it would.
Oh and Carnivore, I don't know if you know how hilarious it was for you to call me a "self-hating Jew" in a private message! LOL indeed! Here's a tip: You know in that gyro thread where you recommend Saaba's on Atlantic near Third Avenue? As someone who's lived here before 9-11 and much of the anti-Isreal/anti-Semitic material in local stores went 'underground' so-to-say, you might want to think twice about where you spend your next $4-$5 on shwarma. Because the first time I went to Saaba back in 2000 there were definitely one or two anti-Semitic posters up on the wall--for events and meetings and such--and I was deifnitely not welcome.
So call me a "self-hating Jew" all you want Carnivore. It's truly hillarious! I trust your judgement as someone who overreacts to mid-westerners and lashes them down with your "License to Berate" while promoting businesses that are VERY anti-semitic in the big picture. Might want to tweak that overreactive "who's an anti-Semite" detector.
And this might blow your overly PC & overly reactive mind, but if you ever talked to the Muslim/Arab owned store owners deeper down on Atlantic Avenue closer to Court Street about the stores and vendors closer to Third Avenue you might have your mind blown by the fact they a few will readilly say the same thing I did. The fine folks deeper towards Court Street have been here longer and are in general more tolerant. Charlie Sahadi and the fine folks at Damascus Bakery are awesome! Same can't be said of the closeted and not-so-closeted anti-Semites vendors closer to Third Avenue. So please, enjoy Saaba's tasty meals! You're actually supporting a business that has been outwardly anti-Semitic in the near past; gotta keep it behind closed doors nowadays. -
I might actually be able to make it next week...
... and I'm still a big fan of Scattergories, which definitely meets or exceeds geekish needs...
[shit- don't you hate it when something inadvertently trips a memory that you'd rather keep dead and buried?! Right now, I have, My name is Geeker, and I'm a hip-hopper, yeah- go get you some BluBlockers! running through my head... :x ] -

Thanks a lot. I had hoped to keep the sight and sound of Corky Carroll talking about his "big melon head" in the BluBlocker commercial repressed.

Jack, if you hate our "group think" so much, maybe you should just go away or at least stop acting like a petulant child. Go make a Daily Boerum or something. Good luck to you.
Anyways back on topic, I've never played this "Scattergories." It sounds a little before my time.
But if you bring it, I'll play. -

Young lady... Scattergories isn't that old, and neither am I, if that's what you're implying!!!
Here's the gist of the game. You roll a 20-sided die (+1 on the geekfaktor) and that'll determine which letter of the alphabet you (any everyone else) must use. You take a few minutes going down a list of... things... and you have to come up with a word, starting with the given letter, that satisfies the descriptions on the list... essh... everybody compares answers at the end of the round, point are given only to original (not duplicated by anyone else in the group) answers... so creativity counts. For instance, letter C- one thing on the list might be " a state." Two people answer "Connecticut," no points for either... but I answer "confusion," and nobody else does- DING! point for me! Got it?!?! It is fun...

Self-hating, white guilt, bigoted, etc., whatever. I am relatively new to this site and have only met a few people in person, all of whom I like. You, Jack, just seem to enjoy being an instigator and getting up in people's grills, why? This is the last place people form online clique's, my impression has always been that everyone here is open to new and different people just bring a positive attitude and write a little less. :?

I LOVE scattergories, and I'm not even really a game person. I'm there.
But if you bring it, I'll play. -

this sounds really complex and difficult to play in a bar. we were having trouble hearing each other when we were playing taboo, and holding stuff, like a pen or a buzzer, was also problematic because of the whole eating dinner thing. -
Candicissima wrote: "group think" .
Actually, it's a hive mind, thanks.

Hmm...sounds interesting. But aren't there 26 letters in the alphabet?

Hey guys-greet seeing/meeting all of you. I had a blast. And thanks for including Brandon. Hopefully I will see all of you next week!

Yeah, but you don't want to have to play with Q, Z, etc. -

Jack - please don't go. I enjoy both you and Carnivore and think your exchanges are actually quite healthy - as long as they are not taken too seriously for too long.
I don't know any of you by face/moniker combo - and trust me you don't want me to come to Soda's - because I'm a fierce competitor - I WILL WIN at any game you dream of - I will be intolerable!!!
GROUP HUG!!!!! :P -

First you complain about my criticizing people in public, then you respond to my PM by flaming me in a public forum. Give it a rest. Andy doesn't like this shit, and as I think everyone has been trying to point out to you, you're seriously being a jerk.
Howdy, Stranger!
