Leaky Ceiling
Anybody else got a leaky ceiling from all this rain? I've been listening to drip-drip-drip into my pots and pans for the last three days. For the last two I have plaster and pant melting and falling from the ceiling. A to Z has come to look at my ceiling and then they take off for the roof assuring me that it will be taken care of. I know the rain was heavy so I'm trying to be understanding, but when is enough enough? Also, I'm catching most of the drips but they splash onto the floor and I wonder if it will in turn affect (effect?) my downstairs neighbor.

i'm on the top floor of my building. it seems as if a lake has formed above my bedroom. no drip drip yet, but the pots and pans are ready to serve their second purpose in life.

If you're on the top floor of a building that you can climb up on the roof to, check to see if leaves or anything else i blocking the drain. That's how water pools up. And usually you can just clean that up and the water drains away.

Good suggestion, perhaps I'll check that out during the day tomorrow. I had presumed the super would've cleared away obstructions when he went up there yesterday. I'm thinking that they can't really do anything anyway until the rain let's up.

Step one: Climb up on roof.
Step two: Look for drainage area.
Step three: See if it's blocked.
Step four: Unblock it.
There's nothing magical about it. And you can do it when it rains or snows or whatever. Just be prepared to get your feet wet. -

For those of us who rent and don't have easy access to the roof (perhaps because the last idiots who re-tarred it sealed the trap door shut):

Step four: Unblock it.

Step One: Call Landlord.
Step Two: Exagerrate the problem! Chances are, by the time he does anything about it, all the potential scenarios you imagine will actually have occurred by the time someone comes to fix it. Tell him your roof is leaking and you don't have enough buckets to catch the drops and there's so much water that you're worried it damaging your belongings and the apartment below you.
Step Three: Begin ark construction.
Step Four: If nobody respondes to you're franctic calls for help, call 311 or any appropriat city agency and ask them what to do.
Step Five: Start collecting the animals. The zoo may be a jump-off point. -

I don't need steps, thank you, but I don't like heights, so if I'm going up there at all, I'd rather go in daylight.

Ah, you had the mice problem, right? I have to say, I sincerely admired you sticking to your guns when so many people (myself included) were giving you advice on how & how not to kill the mice.
My landlords live next door to me and they are fantastic neighbors. But as landlords, they're not so great. I told them about a leak in the roof in January, and still nothing's been done. And when I had a faucet leak, it took them 7 months to get somebody to fix it. I know I could've called the city about the faucet and my landlords would've been fined... but then I would've suffered the consequences.
My rent is pretty cheap, so I don't wanna cause a stink, but seven months to get a plumber? And don't let me get started about my leaky roof... Maybe sometime in the *next* 13 years it'll get fixed once & for all. -
unfortunately, there are no leaves blocking the drain. it looks like when they redid the roof they didn't grade it properly, so the water isn't moving toward the drain. bastards.
