I would also like to know, as I'm moving soon and getting rid of alot of good stuff, I don't just want to put it in the trash. Especially if they'll come and pick up a large amount. Thank you!

Housing works picks up. Then there's always "The Moskowitz Trust", which is basically my living room.

I dunno how much stuff you have, but periodically I'll leave something like a blender or a pair of shoes on my building's trash cans, and it's usually gone within the hour. If you put out furniture on the early side of trash night, I bet it'll be gone fast, too. My old roommate and I once put a bunch of stuff out of 2nd Ave. in Manhattan (furniture, bags of dirty old clothes, you name it) and watched from our windows while people carried stuff off, pulled their cars over to take stuff, and one cabbie even stopped to strap my old bedframe to the roof of his cab. It was like watching ants go after a dropped ice-cream cone. NYers love stuff that's free! Just hope for good weather.

Leaving it on the street is my last resort, as I have no desire to see my cute little clothes spread all over the sidewalk. Rather donate to a worthy cause that can make a little dough. But it is fun to watch the street action, agreed.

When we bought our home I gave a lot of my work clothes to a organization called Dress for Succes (dressforsuccess.org) and they provide interview and work clothes for poor people or for those who are reentering the job force and cannot afford work clothes. They have
I think there is a Goodwill storefront on Flatbush and Sterling? Im not sure which corner.
The other thing is to ask Ms. Pride of PS 9 who is the family coordinator. There are quite a few people in our neighborhood who are under the poverty level. I told her once that I had high chairs, a playpen, etc. that I couldn't give away. She told me to let her know when I have anything like that and she would be able to find a family in need. Her number is (718) 857-3330 or the main number to the school is (718) 834-6790.
And last there is I think a transitional housing group home on Dean St. You might want to ask the director there if there is any need or use for some of your furniture.
Good luck. -
Thanks Stace, that's what I was looking for.
