  • you have loads of choices in the neighborhood including indian, japanese, chinese, diner food etc.
  • yeah pretty much everywhere in the neighborhood delivers, and a bunch of places in park slope will deliver to parts of PH... I've had good luck with Mango Thai in PS (not the best thai food, but cheap and plentiful) and el gran castillo de jagua (known for el carneviento, serves cuban food).
  • I agree about mango, and I actually think it might be the best Thai in the neighborhood.

El Gran Castillo delivers?! Oh man, that makes me so happy! :D
  • Mango is my favorite local Thai place as well. Everything there is very fresh tasting, although some of their sauces are too sweet (beware the Phuket curry). My favorite dish is the Golden Curry Noodle - a yellow curry with egg noodles, fried noodle and pickled vegetables, plus meat/tofu.

There certainly are better places out there, but not in the Park Slope/Prospect Heights area. Lemongrass Grill is akin to a local Chinese delivery place - okay food and cheap prices, but nothing to write home about. That place on the corner of 7th & President, on the 2nd floor, is horrid - the sauces were watery, the food oily and poorly cooked, even the garnishes on the plate of appetizers was visually unapealling (brown, oxidized shredded iceburg lettuce). Sky Thai on 5th was dull. Long Tan I can't comment on, as I've not been there due to lack of vegetarian options. There's also another place on 7th, by 4th or 5th st, I think, that I have yet to try.
  • I went to a Thai place on 5th I think around 1st or 2nd, right across the street from Loki... I don't know what it was called because the decorations and signage were all very minimalist, but I really enjoyed it. It was really cheap for thai food, too... I'm a straight drunken noodles guy, and theirs (although just called 'spicy noodles') were good, loaded with vegetables (not just peppers and onions like many places) and only cost 6.95. Again, I'm not sure of the name of this place so it could have been one of the places someone else talked about, but I liked it. It was pretty cool inside, too, it didn't at all feel like a place that would be so inexpensive.
The noodles could have been a tad spicier, if it were up to me, but that's me nitpicking. Next time I think I'll just ask for extra spicy.
  • I love Lemongrass - especially the Coconut Milk soup. I'm addicted to it. I will try Mango next time cause I've seen so many posts here raving about it. Who delivers burritos to PH? La Taquaria?
  • I'm not sure if Taqueria delivers. They make excellent burritos, but, when ordering in, I have a great deal of difficulty pulling myself away from Yummy Taco. For 4.95, you get giant burritos with meat, cheese, beans, rice, lettuce, tomatoes, sauce... they feel like they weigh like 2 pounds, I swear. They may not be quite as good as Taquerias, and they certainly don't offer the same burrito selection, but they're just so cheap, and they're really good. Plus, after eating them, you can lay in your burrito-induced delirium with your roommate and his girlfriend and whoever else ate them and just be like, man, that was a Yummy Taco.

At least that's been my experience.
  • I take it that Yummy Taco delivers, where are they located? Flatbush & ?
    Thanks in advance,
    mc
  • Flatbush and Bergen... the minimum is 6 dollars for "near" delivery and 10 dollars for all other delivery... I don't know entirely what constitutes "near," but it definitely includes Lincoln and Underhill... Also, be prepared for a bit of a communication issue when ordering- the woman who answers the phone there has never ever successfully repeated my address, and yet, miraculously, my burrito arrives unscathed every time.

It just is not Friday's at my house unless you order for El Gran Castillo. They even delivered a bottle of beer and their small bottle of wine to us with the food!! I love their cuban sandwiches, fried pork chops, yellow rice, sweet plantains . . . I can go on and on.

Speaking of chicken fried steak have you guys been to the Cowgirls Restaurant in the Village - they have the best chicken fried steak with garlic mashed and top it off with a Mango margarita.

    MMM Im so hungry!!!!

*sigh* again with the claims of superiority... air hockey and ping pong. Before the end of the month. I'll make time. Don't eat too many shrimp sandwiches between now and then.

I've eaten there once - my girlfriend had some shrimp + rice noodle dish, which she loved. I had a flavorless, watery green curry. Blech.
