Subject: Aliseo status
I spoke to them today. They are finishing up and will re-open within a few weeks. Renovation is basically complete, just really needs to be cleaned up and organzied.
Don't worry, Albano wouldn't abandon us. -
What's the deal with the lightbulbs on the wall? Was that wired by the owner from scratch or was it approriated from the setup of whatever was there before? I always wondered that because I like it and it seems like it would have been a lot of work if the wiring wasn't already in place.

As for the lights, my sense is that it's part of Albano's grand plan. FYI -- when I walked by this place on Friday night it was open for business, candles blazing.

I don't know what the big deal is about this place. It was closed for months with no real explanation. I like to have my food cooked on premises not in an apartment upstairs. Doesn't that violate something with the health code? Hopefully his renovations include a real kitchen not a microwave. Pasta should be made to order. It is a cute and quaint place but I think it is a ok restaurant. Wine bar? I don't think so... It doesn't even have a real bar. I'm always confused what I read or hear about this place. It definitely looks like a restaurant. I hope the food is better this time around. -

I had the best squid salad* of my life there, plus a great octopus entree and a delicious bottle of wine. So they don't cook on premises. So they don't have a real bar. If the quality of the product is excellent (as I believe it was), none of that should matter. Come on, this place is the filet of the neighborhood and you know it.

I believe the owner of the restaurant owns the entire building. I also think all of the renovations were in the kitchen/bar area.
I've eaten there several times and my meals have always been fresh and delicious. Not entirely sure what you're referring to re: the pasta, but whatever. -

Hopefully, that was an aberration. I'll give them another try given the large number of voices in support of this place. It's hard to believe they could ever be better than Garden Cafe though. -

Never been to Garden Cafe--I just enjoy saying/writing "the filet of the neighborhood" ever since I saw the previews for "The Squid and the Whale." Hmm, maybe mentioning that squid salad was what prompted me to write the filet thing. Its no way better than Garden Cafe IMHO. Alesio is "fine." I find that their food and its conterpart across the street (pizza place...cant...remember name...) is way too salty.Also, their menu isnt seasonal. Squash in middle of the summer? They dont take credit cards wich is annyoing when its an expesive meal. But, when Ive eaten there (3 times) Ive left full and happy. -
can you just buy bread if you wanted to? or just a restaurant? i think i am blind... been exactly there so many times and have never seen the place, WTF?!
