  • I have school on tuesday nights, so I cant make it but I really want to know what goes down so I hope to hear from someone that does.

On a side note, is it legal to video tape these meetings, it would be great to have an unbiased account after the fact for the people who cant make it but do give a crap.

It is legal to tape these hearings.

I hope that everyone interested in the project and the neighborhoods, and can make it, shows up. should be somewhat like a circus.

Millman headlines hearing with firm stand against Yards

Assembly Member Joan Millman led off the proceedings, hitting the ball out of the park to a mostly cheering crowd, when she announced that she will ask NYS House Speaker Sheldon Silver to NOT support Ratner's project.

Millman was the first speaker to be heard by the Empire State Development Corporation at this evening's hearing. The lead-off spot went to Millman after it was clear that tardy Marty hadn't yet arrived.

The Assembly Member protested the overscale, was deeply concerned about the effect of run-off in the Gowanus Canal, traffic congestion and the enlargement of the project to "Site V" in Park Slope. She came out firmly against the use of eminent domain in this case and called upon the ESDC to use the funding from Forest City Ratner to pay for a community-based review of the Environmental Impact Statement
  • Subject: Hearing

I got there late but reading in the NYTImes this morning that both sides were strongly represented, I was confused 'cause for the 2 1/2 hours I listened I heard 3, maybe 4 people who were in favor. Versus a whole string of people who ranged everywhere from moderately concerned to vehemently against.

Wrote up my impressions as soon as I got home - www.frogma.blogspot.com

  • Letitia James's comments:

"For the past two years, this development has existed in a parallel universe. Information is kept from the public and the press. Community Boards and elected officials are ignored. In place of real information, there is a “newspaper” written, published, and delivered by the developer. In place of the local planning review, there are backroom deals and staged events. Tonight, the public is finally presented with an opportunity to weigh in on this massive proposal. I have many serious concerns about the process, scope, and scale of this project. Clearly, it is not being driven by community needs but by the bottom-line interests of the developer and his investors..."
