  • And if I may add to this question, Vanilla, can anyone recommend any (preferably free) resources for knitting and/or crocheting patterns?
  • There's a knitting group at Freddy's every Saturday at 5pm. I've been meaning to check it out but they had stopped meeting for the summer; it's listed on their website again now so I guess it's back on.

Knitty.com has quite a few free patterns, as do MagKnits.com (I like Knitty's stuff MUCH better, for what it's worth) and Knitting. about.com.
  • Knitpicks.com has some free patterrns, as well as some really cheap PDF patterns.

Some of us knit at the Wednesday evening Soda get-togethers.
  • re: knitting, check out Craftster.org if you haven't already. I'm guessing they have a lot of patterns and tutorials. I don't know for sure since I don't knit and never look at the knitting section, but the sewers on craftster (I sew) post a lot of tutorials, patterns, and links to free patterns. Plus its just a fun place to post pics and show off your finished projects.
  • Saturday at 5pm seems like a weird time for a knitting circle. Maybe we could start our own?

I heard there's one at Prospect Perk, but that place is so small. Where would people sit?

I'd totally be looking to join one since I've got to get my knitting ass in gear to crank out the presents as the holiday season approaches.
  • I belong to an "outside PH" knitting club that meets on Wednesday evenings at the Bowery Poetry Club. It's a great group, but I'm also definitely game for a local PH group. I haven't made it over to Heights Coffee yet. Would that be a more comfortable setting for a knitting group? I'm also in overdrive knitting mode for the holidays.
  • I like Heights Coffee and think the Back Room would be perfect for a knitters group to meet.
  • I'd be up for coming to a knitting circle sometime. And Heights Coffee is the ideal location (not only because it's around the corner from my house!).

Maybe this'll motivate me to finish the poncho that I'm working on-- which, at the moment, looks more like a placemat!
  • heights coffee back room seems like it could work... times?

i like thursday evenings after people normally get off work, but thursday is my day off so all day works for me.
  • hmm, I'd vote for not Wednesday [Happy Hour] and not Thursday [because I have a standing date to babysite Medusa's rugrat]. Anyone good for a Monday or Tuesday evening?

If it's gotta be Thursday, I understand though.
  • I'm always up for another knitting group. Either Monday or Tuesday would be fine with me.

Loving the new seasonal cupcake, Cupcake!
  • I'd make efforts to show up, too. knitting is fun. :)
  • I really, really want to learn how to knit. Would any of you guys be willing to teach me if I showed up at one of the knitting circles?
  • Stacey, i'd be happy to teach you the basics. Just bring a set of needles, around size 9 or so, and a light colored ball of yarn (it's easier to see your stitches with light colors).

Monday or Tuesday are great for me. Maybe around 7?
  • Thanks Goldie! I can't wait :)

Thanks, but I didn't bake that one. I cribbed the photo from Chockylit.

Someone has to step up... :)

How does next Tuesday 7pm at Heights Coffee sound?

Sorry Stacey, I'm terrible at teaching people how to knit.
  • I'm in for Tuesday at 7pm. Looking forward to it! :)
  • Im in too!!!
  • i have class tuesday nights! what about mondays? i can do monday nights....!!
  • Sure, okay, how about Monday night at 7pm. Same place.
  • I might like to come, too. I haven't done it in a while and I only know the basics. I'm not sure if I could come this coming week, but Mondays or Tuesdays are generally good for me.
And thanks everybody for the website tips.
  • I can't make it next week, but if this does indeed become a regular thing be sure to keep us posted -- I'd love to come sometime!
  • I probably can't do both this and the happy hour while my classes are in session, but maybe I'll stop by during winter break.
  • Hmm. Maybe we should start the Monday after next. Come to think of it, I often don't get back to Brooklyn by 7pm. 7:30pm?

Who's in? Two people does not a circle make. Say it loud: I knit and I'm proud and I'll be there on Monday night! Or the following Monday!
  • I can pretty much do it any night - except Monday after next - which is Halloween - but I can make it to all the others.
  • 7:30 is fine... how late does heights coffee stay open?
  • I think Heights Coffee is open til at least 9 but I'll try to walk by and see. So I'm confused-- is it Monday or Tuesday, and what week?
  • So, to recap, are we saying we'll make the knitting circle on Monday nights at 730pm, starting on 11/7? If so, that works for me. :)
  • Nice recap. Works for me.
