Parking on Saturday on 5th and 6th Streets — Brooklynian

Parking on Saturday on 5th and 6th Streets

Does anyone know why "no parking saturday" signs appeared suddenly on Friday on 5th and 6th in the Park Block. I called the 78th precinct and they had no idea(?). There is no one to ask if the signs are even legitimate.

Are we just unwelcome guests in this city or are we citizens and residents who have a right to know what is going on? I called 311 and got the worst runarround I have gotten in years, finally being transferred to the Buildings Deparment for no reason that I or they could fathom.

There is no one to call, no one to ask. Parking is frustrating enough without having a Saturday ruined. Anyone have any ideas?

  • maybe check with the DOT?

If no one acknowledges that the signs are official, maybe it's not illegal to take all of them down?
  • Well, all the cars are off the street. There is NOTHING going on that I can see at all. DOT doesn't have a number to call for these things - they say that they are responsible for rules and large scale issues, not this.

Anyone can get these signs - I could xerox 10,000 of them if I wanted. They are simple, have no dates, only a day - Saturday. There is no permit posted (always happens with movies) and no other notice of any event.

It is very frustrating - the precinct doesn't have any information at all. That is the most annoying thing of all. When I called the precinct they acted as if it were none of my business. Yet who else's business is it - I am a resident and homeowner on this block and it isn't my business?????

Block parties -- 5th street's was rained out last week and 6 street's was scheduled for saturday to begin with.

So that one car can park? That seems unduly selfish. The signs are obviously there for a reason, even if they're poorly designed.

Well, what I said was that no one could give an answer whether or not they were legitimate. It isn't unduly selfish to want to know what the devil they are. It is the lack of information from the City that I am complaining about. That's what I said.

Well that's obvious. I was commenting on the implied suggestion about taking them all down, not your desire for information. I was not responding to your post, as should have been clear since I was quoting somebody else.
  • There was a block party on both blocks this weekend. What I found annoying is that I live on 5th Street and I never saw any of these signs until my boyfriend and I drove up on my block, hoping to move some stuff into my apartment. I never saw any of those signs or even got an invitation to the block party! *sob!*
