free dog food -- Natural Choice large breed puppy

Free dog food, about half of a 20-lb bag. Nutro Natural Choice large breed puppy lamb & rice dry food.

I bought it so my girlfriend's dog would have food at my place, but now she's switched him to a different brand. I hope someone can use it, seems a shame to throw it out.

St. Johns and Washington in Prospect Heights, pick up after 9pm weeknights or this weekend. IM me if you're interested.

  • Why is it weird? The dog it was for now eats another brand of food, and many dogs have sensitive digestive systems and can't switch back and forth. So he's never going to eat it. So I thought maybe someone else who feeds their dog this kind of food might want it, instead of me throwing away 10 lbs of perfectly good food.

I tried craigslist and got a few responses but then the people never showed to pick it up. So I thought I'd focus more on Brooklyn and maybe it would be easier for someone nearby to get it. But instead I meet with the same suspicion and unfriendliness prevalent throughout these boards.

  • It would be weird if Asil had never posted on this board before and just joined to post the offer. This is one of the things I love about this board and the PS/PH area. People aren't willing to just toss good food/furniture/clothes in the garbage, they'd rather it goes to someone who can use it. CH isn't like that, I've found so much stuff on the street that people assume no one wants. Including an awesome pc game from about 20 years ago, complete with the booklet!

  • sorry, man. it's just REALLY nice for you to go to the effort of posting on craigslist and this board because you don't want to waste half a bag of dog food. it's cool, just a little unusual. i know i would have just thrown the food away.

  • There's lots of free stuff on craigslist. But maybe it is unusual to be so persistent. I just hate to throw stuff away, and this food was expensive!

I found someone who wants it, so I can get it out of my kitchen w/out feeling bad about adding to the horrific amount of garbage we New Yorkers produce, someone gets some free dogfood, and I meet a neighbor. Good all around.

  • try Brooklyn Free Cycle, if you haven't already.

i had a similar situation with cat food, posted all over, finally ended up meeting someone who needed it. but that was special prescription food, so i would think your situation would be easier.

you might also contact a rescue group and see if they could use a donation. i think the humane society in my home town took food.
